I have been playing wow on and off (mostly questing) for the last few months, level 69 belf pally. I am still a n00b, but I started playing BG and I'm really enjoying it except for the fact that I tend to get my @ss handed to me on a regular basis.

Few questions:
1.) I have been told to save my honor points. Good idea? I have +/-600
2.) Can I only get decent gear for the BG by spending honor points?
3.) One player told me I need to get my resilience up, how?

any other advice?

Resilience you will only get up with gear. At 69? you will only buy gear using honor points...
If you plan to level up to 85 and do BG's more extensively then, it maybe a good idea to save your honor points... Till then just have fun even though you will get hammered a lot.

Im enjoying it a lot. I basically do archeology while waiting in the queue. What I learned thus far is know your map and stick with teh crowd.

theres no help for you :p
just kidding ^^

what spec are you playing? dps healing (tank?) if you are dpsing it becomes that much harder from here, as a lot of your hits are melee type. latency makes that hard. but doable. you gotta just keep practising. look for enchants if you are a bit worried about damage/heals output. get them from a guildie, hell even ask them for mats as people run a lot of older content, so get them to keep all the green items for disenchanting. offer a small fee too, most of the time the people will say no.

getting the right buff food for you will help too, but not so good (and expensive) if you are dying 20 odd times in a BG. however flasks are a way to go then too.

otherwise, just keep practising

I suggest spending some points at level 70 on the brutal gear which you can get from Tanaris and Area 52. It has resi, and is relatively cheap.. i think its about 150 points per item. Not bad at all.. and it will definately help your survivability.

Would you suggest I go dual spec then?

Considering the crazy price of 10g (instead of 1000g as it used to be) ... I don't see any reason not to. Plus the satisfaction of having 3-5 guys hitting on you and you just healing up again all the time is pretty awesome.

Besides as the saying goes:

Q: What's the best strategy for Warsong Gulch?
A: The team with the best geared holy paladin wins.

BGs at 69 is still easy. Don't worry about resilience until you are 85, so save honor points till then as well, you will need about 20k to buy a basic set to enter Arena, but the cap is 4000, so if you are at 2400 start buying pieces for level 85, so that once you hit that level you have some gear already.

1. Use a PvP based spec
2. Learn how to counter other classes' abilities, as a pally not much you have to do, but CC'ing a healer or killing a healer 1st is usually prio
3. Most BGs its actually more important to go for objectives than killing players. Killing players give honor points, but going for objectives and win gives faster and more honor for time spent.
4. Communicate with other players in the BG, its essential if you plan on winning, and try to be nice to other players even though most of them won't try to be nice.

Short strats for most BGs.

Alterac Valley
Best most efficient win here is go for bunkers/towers then kill the opposing faction leader. The semi hero can be killed but if you waste time on him/her you could very well lose, only aim for that if you know you be losing.

Warsong Gulch/Twin Peaks
3 fast caps is the win, defense also helps except on the 1st cap right after the game start. Mid fight is a waste of time unless everyone works as a team to control midfield and make sure the opposing faction can't cross whilst helping your own flag carrier. Slowing FC attackers is key so that your own FC can get away from attackers. Slow EFC so that your team can keep pressure on him while dealing with his healers.

Arathi Basin/Battle for Gilneas
Get 2/3 bases (AB 3 bases, and BfG 2 bases), AND VERY IMPORTANT, DEFEND! So many times I see us getting the bases just to lose them because there are no defense.

Eye of the Storm
Get 2 bases, defend and take flag.
Or get 3-4 bases and ignore flag, though the 1st tactic is the easier one, it however fully depends on what the players actually do and don't do.
Again DEFENSE is key to win.

Strand of the Ancients
Control of the tanks are key here.
When you defend, slow them, keep them slowed and prio is to kill the tanks.
When you attack, key is to break through as fast as possible and take control, this is best done like this.
Melee steer and control the vehicle.
2 ranged stand on sides, 1 caster with CC that CC all the attackers behind the vehicle, and other caster preferably a healer, which dispel cc on the vehicle as well as heal here and there, but mostly dispel cc on the vehicle and partly heal the players thats attacking the vehicle attackers.

The last one I am not going to bother to describe since its a **** BG in my opinion and I never play it.

Ill do a bit of research for my second spec and then ill ten-to-one come back and bombard you with questions again.

OT, anyone doing archeology?

Did wsg with prot warrior. I have no pvp gear at all. While I got owned when I was alone, In a group I think i earned the title "Most annoying player". My shockwave and piercing howl combo twice allowed our Druid flag carrier to escape a crowd of hordes to place their flag in our flag room, with the 2nd one winning the game 3-0 for us. :)

+1

Before cata I lol'd my way through EOTS/WSG as a prot warrior in full pve gear (540 defense = resilience cap )

Yep, I'm doing archaeology now. It's quite fun if you're doing it on the sideline while waiting for bg's etc. or watching a movie / series on another screen/tv.

I'm on 310 now and I have the rare mini bone raptor pet and a mirror that casts an image of you for 20sec. Quite cool. Last night I also unlocked the Fossilized Raptor Mount discovery and I need another 80 or so fragments to solve it before I can use the mount. It's pretty awesome.

What rocks even more is if you discover any of the epic weapons/armor, it's bind on account so any of your chars can use it at the right lvl.

pvp gear is crap to use, pve for all the way to 84.
my mage and lock are both untouchable and neither have any resilience.

Well. Mage and Lock are classes slightly better off than most other classes. Just because lock/mage doesnt need resilience doesnt neccesarily mean that other classes dont need it either.

The level 70 pvp gear is extremely cheap and I recommend that you get it.

There a big missbalance of gear in the 75+bg range as well, the cata green items(77+) are so much more powerfull. I actually did buy all the pvp gear at 70 cause I had nothing else to spend the points on, it was ok, but quickly replaced.

i'll say, have fun Learn as much as u can by practice practice, most importantly Learn how to counter and when to use your abilities. dont just pop all your CD for no reason, use them wisely! and good luck.

for now im just enjoying playing in a team. The BGs are a lot better than dungeons when it comes to some snotnose kid in Korea bitching about his teamies being noobs.
