So they're saying Zille will be making a big announcement in a little bit. Rumours flying around about Agang possibly merging with the DA, or Ramphele joining them, at least.

Thoughts on what it could be? Being hyped as an announcement of 'national importance'.

Rumours of Agang, DA merger

Da leader Helen Zille says she will be making "an announcement of national importance" on Tuesday, hinting at a DA, Agang SA merger.

South Africa has been "hungry" for a change in politics, Agang SA leader Mamphela Ramphele told Beeld newspaper in a report on Tuesday.

Citing unnamed reliable sources, the newspaper reported that Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille would announce the merger at a briefing in Cape Town at 10am on Tuesday.

The newspaper approached Ramphele for comment, who said: "When we started Agang, we said we are very anxious to see a re-arrangement in South African politics.

"We spoke to everyone – from Cope [Congress of the People] to the UDM [United Democratic Movement] to the DA.

"There are talks. The country is hungry for a change in political leadership," Ramphele was quoted as saying in the Afrikaans daily.

Zille's office informed the media on Monday that she would make "an announcement of national importance" on Tuesday.

Ramphele launched Agang SA about a year ago.

Rumours
Agang SA said in a statement on its website on Sunday that rumours should be "ignored" that Ramphele was on the DA's list of candidates for election.

"We make no secret of the fact that we talk to other parties in South Africa. We make no secret of the fact that all parties and citizens need to stand together against the ANC and those who want to use our resources to fund their own egos and lifestyles ...

"There is an extra-ordinary window of opportunity that has opened since Madiba's passing and the fracturing of the Tripartite Alliance. We will continue to inspire citizens to put the country first in their choice of leadership and collaboration opportunities," said the statement.

Will support this. I have a feeling Ramphele will take over the leadership of the DA when Zille steps down. With Ramphele at the helm and Mazibuko and the guys like Maimanne the DA can take over from the ANC.

Agang was very aggressive in the previous talks, the whole reason it stalled. Now reality has set in and the coffers are empty.
Awkward...

Deep down this is a question of branding. Lets face it - Agang will draw more black votes than the DA. So I wonder which name will stay.

I think the DA will stay, a better known brand name than Agang and more people, albeit the cANCer's effort to discredit it, even in the rural area's.

This is the only way that the "DA" will ever take another province. The DA needs to lure more black voters, Ramphele may just be key to make this happen sooner.

Agreed, the only thing is I can Trollip gooiing a spanner in the wheels and might gun for the leadership, but hopefully he can the better picture here.

Ramphele just arrived at the venue where the announcement is being made

So all those stories yesterday about Ramphele appearing on some secret DA list have some basis then. This should be interesting. Should make deciding who to vote a lot easier.

Trollip is an idiot. But let us not get ahead of ourselves. I will just be happy to see some more black faces in the DA leadership structure as it will draw the previously "not a snowballs chance in hell" votes, into the "we have a chance at least" spectrum.

Sadly the DA must jack up their admin.....
Calls to Gauteng offices not answered and mail boxes "full"!
:confused::confused:

Well let's first see what the briefing is really about.
