Big broadband speed increases in SA

I would love to know how the methodology for calculating averages, peak averages and penetration work, because my estimates for South Africa would be far lower on both the speeds and the penetration.

ie. 'the average person is not achieving the average speeds shown' (in my estimations)
 
The stone last statement is an exaggeration as the list excludes most African countries. I am sure we are ahead of Lesotho and Swaziland (but you never know)

A lot of it is overstated. Its taken years for ISP in the UK to be forced to tone down their advertised speeds to something more realistic. I expect in most of these countries they hype up their speeds and they arent challenged. SA isnt that far off most world wide averages as far as speeds go. Its in the retail prices that SA consumers are being shafted.
 
I don't know about that. Here in the peoples republic of no internet (China), the internet is still better than back in SA.
Far far far far far better. And its quite terrible here in China. People complain how bad it is, and I have to tell them even so, its still better than back in .za

I complain about how slow and shaped it is every time I'm in .za
Daytime is almost unusable. Its not even my provider, as its the same at pretty much every location I'm in when back home.

Internet in .za is overpriced and sucks. The good news though is that we may not need internet anymore, as you need electricity for that..

A little overstated IMO. Must be your location. Time to live and work in another location.
 
Fibre popping up all over the place, and I'm just sitting here hoping that my 10Mbps line will someday sync higher than 5.5Mbps...

My sister lives in estate with fibre to the home. Company that supplies them are completely ripping them off. R50 a gig to top up.

My other sister has an ADSL line and pays R5 a gig to top up. I'd rather be stuck with this deal than the fibre deal sister A landed up with.
