Big changes coming to Google Assistant

Google has announced that a number of new features for its Google Assistant will launch in 2018.

The company showcased the new features for its digital assistant at its I/O event in California.

Wow - voices. These guys are pioneers.

OK Google...

Hi there. Relax. It has already been done.

.... But I haven't asked you what to do yet.

Sorry, I do not understand. Please repeat your question.

OK Google....

Everything is in order. Have a cup of coffee.

..... But, but....

Sorry, I didn't get that. Could you repeat it?

Dave... What are you doing Dave?

I'm talking about the assistant making calls on your behalf stuff this article didn't even touch on.

Hmmm I will need to watch the keynote today to see... google are ahead in some areas and not in others... overall I’d say they’re slightly ahead of their competitors in the voice assistant space, not miles ahead

If Siri in the next two years can get to where Google Voice assistants were in 2016, I'd be impressed.

Siri doesn’t even feature... Alexa and google are top with Cortana catching up as ms always do

It truly blows my mind that a company with the resources of Apple - so basically the most resources - has a dumbass useless virtual assistant with Siri.

How is it even possible. Tim Cook seems to understand the importance of AI, humanised user assistance and Siri as a general product. It is incomprehensible how bad Siri is.

At this point it seems more likely that they're going to announce all of a sudden that Siri is self-aware with human-like intelligence. Working on something entirely different seems like the only plausible excuse now.

Hardly.... Cortana and Alexa have supported conversational stuff for a while already

So has Google Assistant. That wasn't the improvement - it was how much better it has become.

They are pioneers. Watch a keynote summary if you haven't already. Google is making serious strides. That auto calling stuff has heralded the future. And the voices you're deriding are entering uncanny valley they're so natural.

After watching that portion of the Keynote, I can totally agree on the uncanny valley point.. they're disturbingly natural..

I noticed this morning that I have a new Assistant app on my phone. Even though I have auto-download/updates turned off.

Just checked, you're right. I had updates completely off as I was roaming out of country.
