Big Post Office overhaul on the cards

Big changes could be coming to the South African Post Office (Sapo) if newly appointed communications minister Solly Malatsi implements his party's plan to revitalize the beleaguered postal service.

The DA's Information and Communication Technology policy document for 2024 includes a plan to repurpose Sapo for the digital age and form public-private partnerships with big players in the ecommerce space, such as Takealot.

With the existing infrastructure, I think there is good potential.

I would personally start by having all staff reapply for their jobs.

The ideal position for the post office is to act as delivery hubs/warehousing/distribution for the private sector to operate out of. Just allow that as an additional service for the private sector to use if they want to and they will have a very nice revenue stream.

Throw in a service that only the state can operate, like being able to make authenticated copies of documents, and they have a winner.

If they were clever, they would buy out Pargo to get hold of the technology and people running it, and use them to fix the service.
