Within our environment the increases/bonuses is not the issue, as those are a mix between mandatory increase to level inflation as well as performance based increases. I do find that most candidates have unreasonable expectations - i.e. before arranging an interview for Pretoria candidates (we are in Bryanston), I will tell them "Are you sure you want to do this? Consider traffic, etolls, petrol, time wasted / BTW We do have flex-time so you can attempt to avoid traffic by coming in really early" - most guys will rock up and then demand a minimum 5K increase to make up for petrol/travel cost (also don't forget that this is after we were happy with the initial salary requirements which are already lifted from candidates current job).
I think most people have unreasonable expectations. Like the guys starting in October and then believing that they would deserve a December bonus / or being disappointed that they did not get a huge increase in January (and conveniently forgetting that they already boosted their salary when starting a mere 4 months earlier).
So in most cases for me it is now all about attitude, enthusiasm and personality and I forgo skill matrix on CVs as anyone with the right mindset (and a reasonable amount of IQ) will be able to achieve anything.

By the looks of it, Fourways will get a major revamp (as much as I would like Fourways Mall/business centre changed, I would hate to have to face construction/traffic problems on the way to work for at least 1 year) - anyone know if this is still coming?
