I see (shopping for a gfx card under R1000.00) that there is 128bit and 256 bit cards both with 256MB.

Is there a BIG difference between 128 and 256 bit or not really?

Something I also would like to know. I even see cards that is 128bit that is more expensive than 256 bit cards.

any1 pls help out

yes there is. though i dont have the techincal skills to explain it has something to do with the bus, GFX RAM clock speeds and GPU clock speeds.

*waits for a more technical input reply*

and i would like to throw something in...wtf is VIVO? im busy looking it up, but so far im getting nothing.

Could be Video In, Video Out?
EDIT: Or,
Very Interesting Video Options?
Visual Integrated Video Optical?
Vastly Inferior Very Old?
:D

128 and 256 bit refers to the width of the memory bus, i.e. the amount of data that can be carried between the gpu and the RAM on the card per clock cycle. In terms of speed, 256 bit is a lot faster, and worth spending more on.
VIVO stands for Video In, Video Out, and is mostly used for video editing. It can input and ouput RCA and S-video signals.

Yes, now i can find info on VIVO after you guys told me. If that is the diffs between 128 and 256 bit then i think its well worth it to get 256bit, just dont want to spend the extra cash to find out that 256bit is all "theoretically" possible like SATA.

256 bit is better and not only theoretically as proven by benchmarks if you google for it. ;)

Which one?

MSI NX6600GT-VTD128, 128MB Geforce FX 8X AGP (DVI, ViVo) [500/900Mhz] [DDR3]
MSI NX6600-VTD256, 256MB Geforce FX 8X AGP (DVI, ViVo) [300/500Mhz]

I would think the 1st one cause the clocks are much faster but the 128MB is bothering me?

the clocks would be faster since it only runs @ 128 bit, but the throughout of the 256 bit card with a lower clock is higher though. Thats the catch! ;)

Plus it has more onboard RAM too!

1st one as its the GT where as the other card is standard. Drop me a mail and i'll Quote you.

But you would go for the 1st one?
I have that first one and I must say I'm very happy with it. It's the first time I've actually been close to having a top of the range card (OK, I know it's not close anymore, but it was). Old cards were: Riva TNT2 M64, Geforce 4 MX440, ... , sad isn't it?

read here for some benchmark info on the 6600GT 128 bit click me.

cant find anything on the 6600 256 bit....

yip, just saw the benchmarks. Its GT model thus the better than vanilla 6600 256 bit one.
