Big Five to become Big Seven

Are southern-right and humpback whale classed as a predators?
It's blatant marketing and people will see right through it, the world knows it as the big 5 and I think it's dumb to lose that branding.
 
It's a marketing gimic.

The Big 5 were defined by the big game hunters. That evolved somewhat into the 'must see' african experience. Of course it menas that tourists will end up in the Kruger (and similar). So if you want to get a bit more money out of their pockets you'll need to have them in Hermanus.

I think it means that only South Africa will be offering this experience.

In exactly the same way that the Cape Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant are.

No wait - they eat krill and those are hardly vegetables.
 
Bit late to be marketing it now in winter when it's really the season to be game watching already rather than summer.
 
But there are parks in EC that gives you this experience. And have been for a few years now.
 
so the whale will go on the R500 note... and the shark on the R1000 note as our currency devalues more and more with all these strikes?

I just don't think they've thought this through properly and maybe hurt the inland gameparks that can't offer the full "Big 7" experience.

There should be tourists here already with the Confed cup and B&I.Lions tour.

The government is involved so of course it hasn't been thought through.

I said that there are tourists here already - some of whom may well return next year, or at least, tell their friends about it.

I doubt that there is a single park anywhere that can offer the Big 7.
 
I can just see the Hump-backed whale stalking krill. Idiot journalist has no clue what a predator is.

Stupid idea overall, whale-watching and shark-cage diving are completely separately run industries from game park drives.

This is like saying that "cats" are part of the big five (lion) and "bovids" too (buffalo).

Please define it a bit more! Rather make it "Great White Shark" and "Hump Back Whale" or something.
