Big fuel tax increases to hit motorists

Meh I can drive a bit slower or a bit less. At least it is a tax I can avoid somewhat.
 
That's fine, at least everyone pays. Not just income tax payers...

Assuming that everyone [legally] has to get their licenses renewed annually, proof of insurance could easily be made a requirement to do that and it gives law enforcement one more reason to impound unlicensed vehicles.

Precisely this... you're supposed to present proof of address now when you renew your license, so why not just add proof of insurance to the list...

And if you are a pedestrian with no car, hit by a careless driver without this 3rd party insurance? He goes to jail? You pay for all your own medical expenses?

But yes, that is an aspect that needs to be dealt with somehow of course.... BUT I would suspect that pedestrians that are hit by drivers, where the pedestrian is not trying to cross the road illegally are in the minority of cases.

I'd be all for that, and adding traffic fines, a roadworthy test and e toll account check to requirements to get a licence disc.

These proposals are usually met with claims that people will simply go without licence discs.

Impound and crush vehicles that are unlicensed...

Won't need to do more than 200 vehicles before everyone would make BLOODY sure their vehicle is licensed properly

I would love to see that, but it's highly unlikely to ever happen.
