Big NHI blunder

Yip, NHI was the gem that didn't deliver. MK really ate from the ANC.

The NHI might have alienated some middle-class folk, since NHI will be paid for by the middle class and not the wealthy (wealthy folk have smart ways of paying as little tax as possible, hehehe).

It would also have alienated the thousands of politicians and their supporters who didn't have the luxury of flying to Russia for treatment...

Doubt it was the NHI that broke their backs.

Their history of an inept, undecided cleptocracy was so overwhelming that even NHI could not turn the tide for them. It really was Zuma that tore them apart. If they only had real balls and not committee mandated prosthetics they should have taken decisive action against the thieves amongst them. Sadly (from their perspective) it would have left just a few standing, so they took no real action. So here they are

They allowed Zuma to dictate the narrative when they treated him as a 'wronged friend' and not the destructive, self interested fraudster he is. Should have come out strongly against him. But then I believe they all looked up at him as 'uBaba'.

PS : I understand the desire and narrative to shoot down the NHI as it is written now. But it was not what sank the ANC. It was the bilge pump that could not keep the sinking, rotten ship afloat

If their supporters didn’t like the stealing and corruption they wouldn’t have gone to the MK and EFF.
They’ll get much more from them as they need to start looting from scratch.

Frans Cronje, who is quoted in this article is usually very good at analyzing these kinds of things, so I am hesitant to disagree, but something doesn't make sense.

I suspect that the 99% of votes that ANC lost went to the MK. MK is even more socialist and left leaning than the ANC, so they want NHI + Nationalized Mining + more SOE's etc. n

If his analysis is correct, the middle class drain from the ANC would have significantly boosted the more moderate parties like the DA, which showed no significant growth in support.

NHI was the last straw. The general ineptness skewered the ANC's chances. Our Xhosa domestic was a staunch ANC supporter

She told us last week that she and most of her neighbours would not vote for the ANC as they have proved to be most dishonest

Itheko labelungu deserved her vote she said

The only thing that actually hurt the ANC was a splinter faction along tribal lines.
