Big-screen monitors to replace TVs in December 2025

BMI TechKnowledge is currently developing a new, sustainable funding model for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), which is likely to replace the TV licence scheme.

However, until the new funding model is implemented, which could still be a considerable distance away, South African residents require a TV licence to purchase a TV.

Any sort of funding model that directly supports the SABC and blatant theft will not workout the way you want it to. You are better off Selling the SABC then working on said model, but again Sell it to a company outside the SA governmental purview.

Bull. The licensing hasn't ever even covered 20% of SABC's funding needs, for well over a decade.

It seems only new advertising could help, and that won't happen with SABC's kind of content.

Will people accept a household tax for this? Never IMO, they're wasting their time, and it's not within the scope of the Receiver's responsibilities.

South African residents have access to some big-screen monitor models that don’t require a valid TV licence for purchase. However, options are relatively limited.

MyBroadband looked for big-screen monitors of various sizes and found eight options priced between R4,899 and R19,555.

The problem will not go as long as people look at a licensing model that will work. What needs to happen is that the SABC must broadcast programs that more people will want to watch. If they do that, they will attract advertisers that will add money.
Look at E-TV. They only survive on advertisers.
The majority of people either have cheaper DSTV packages or OpenView.

I just bought a 2 month old second hand TV through carbonite. Never want to get onto the TV license system out of principal. I don't watch SABC and I don't listen to radio

Especially services which we don't use or want...
