Big security risks to Eskom infrastructure

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa recently outlined plans to solve the country’s devastating electricity supply crisis. But he didn’t mention the country’s ability to protect its energy infrastructure as a prerequisite to any solution. [The Conversation]
 
The ANC isn't so much with the prevention. They prefer to wait until it's a crisis so they can make it worse then wait some more until it's a complete clusterF.
 
Use the army. They're not doing anything worthwhile at the moment anyway.

The protection of critical infrastructure starts with the tone from the top, and as per law, needs to be executed by the SAPS. The fact that Ramaphosa chose an incompetent fool like Cele as police minister is irrefutable proof that this is not a high priority for him, nor the ANC. So he can spare the idle BS talk of a "pack of hyenas", "fast-tracking criminal complaints" and "we need to do more".

Looking at history, there has never been even one single competent police minister (or even a national commissioner for that matter) under the ANC. One does not have to reflect too deep to understand why. The protection of critical infrastructure is unimportant, and the protection of the inhabitants of SA and their property even less so. Until this function is restored to a reasonable semblance of competence and control, we will soon rival Somalia.

If Ramaphosa really wants economic growth, (without which he can accomplish absolutely nothing), then he will:
  • Fire Cele;
  • Appoint a competent minister of Safety and Security whose role encompasses police and defence force. Top tip for Cyril: If you think that militarising the police is what's needed, then appoint someone with actual military experience, not a kindergarten teacher who only dreams about it.
  • Cut the bloated Zuma cabinet by 75% and assign resources to ministries that seek to find and punish criminals, like the police, defence force, justice and correctional services;
  • Cut protection services for cabinet, parliamentarians and local government by at least 95%. The only ones getting VIP security should be the president, deputy, minister of safety and security and chief justice.
Once there are real consequences for crime, investors will stream in, because they will be assured of the protection of property and have a predictable environment in which to operate.
