Big security upgrade for .ZA domain

The ZA Central Registry (ZACR) has announced that it now offers a Registry Lock security feature for the EPP-based domain names under its management.

This feature helps to prevent domain name hijacking and prevents domain names from being transferred without authorisation.

.co.za domains are way too easy to transfer though. This seems like a good move to me. Dunno what @Jade @ Absolute Hosting thinks about this.
The price simply doesn’t justify the feature. Other name spaces offer security features at no cost and there is no automation with their systems so it’s a thumbs down from me

That's nothing new and does not justify the price hike.

Corrupt to the core, more specifically I fret for the security of domain ownership in this country.
It's an optional feature in some international TLD registrations as you probably know.
The price to add it is peanuts however.
S.A. losing this one.

Most of the TLD’s include an epp code, but, they don’t charge 10x the cost of a domain registration for something that should be the default.

it’s like being charged R500 to have password protection on your gmail account :)

Checked the article a few times and I see no mention of the additional fee. How much is it?

A premium added to the current increase?

Registry Lock incurs an additional cost to the normal domain name registration fee that users would pay, but ZACR said the value of this type of protection is immeasurable when compared to the reputational and revenue losses that a domain name holder may suffer as a result of their domain name being hijacked.

At which price point will the service be priced at? I have never had the issue where malicious attempts had been made on my .ZA domains, but assurance is always welcome. To steep, and I won't take it under consideration.

That must be one kak registrar.
Domain lock without WHOIS protection is included for free at Godaddy. Which isn't even a great place to do registrations.
We use them for our gtld's and they aren't great.
The amount of spam that one receives on newly registered domains is a concern and their policies are daft

No account support available either.
You can't email them because they only accept calls. Real shitty place.
I've also noticed inflated prices, especially when looking for niche domains.
It's as if their system is automated to present the most expensive and unaffordable domains available. I'm speaking from an end user perspective.
