hello

am scared that my bike might get stolen. I am thinking about parking my bike in first gear so when a novice tries to push the bike it would lock up.

Would it damage my bike if someone tries to push it while it's in gear?

Thx

Nah don't worry :)

If the bike is a big bike the only thing that might happen is the wheel get dragged (if the guy is strong enough)
If you ride a smaller bike the engen might just turn with the wheel (will no start as the ignition is not switched on)

Surely you can lock the front wheel which makes it a real biatch to move anywhere and is way more effective than parking in first gear to prevent someone from pushing as anyone can just change the gear to neutral very easily ;)

But generally bikes are not a high priority target for thieves due to lower general value so chillax. There's nothing much you can do so don't stress

Put the killswitch on, and i turn off my fuel petcock so they wont get very far if they start it :P two simple things that keep bikers from starting/riding because they dont notice it.so hopefully it will help hinder a criminal. i also have a stretchy bike cable lock that i put around the back shocks and through the back wheel. not always easy to spot and if you forget about it it doesnt damage your wheel, unlike a disc lock that can f-up your disc.

you can also try and put in a hidden kill switch somewhere.

just know that bike thieves often just come in a group, pick a bike up and put it on a bakkie. just try and make it as difficult as possible.

great advice thank you guys. Am deffinately going to try turning the choke to mid way, someone advised me to do that i.r.l. But didn't know why until now :)

I have zero clue when it comes to bikes .. so n00b question :

Do bikes have alarms with sirons like cars?
