Seventh Day Adventist Pastor Calvin Luvi from Clermont in Durban and six family members were driving home on Saturday when they were attacked.

Calvin said they were on the South Coast highway when more than 20 bikers joined the road at the Amanzimtoti on-ramp.

“One of the bikers hit my car with his bike,” Calvin told Daily Sun. “While I was wondering what was going on, I saw three bikers on my right trying to stop me.

“I did not stop because I realised they wanted to beat us. After seeing that I wasn’t pulling off, they started hitting my car, damaging it and stabbing it with long knives while I tried to speed off,” said Calvin.

He said his family was traumatised and he nearly lost control of the car.

“It was clear they were trying to force me off the road. They chased us and destroyed both side mirrors, which made it difficult to drive. But I managed to get to the police station,” Calvin said.

He said after opening a case, cops told him that the bikers were well-known bullies in the Amanzimtoti area.

Captain Thulani Zwane told the People’s Paper that a case of malicious damage to property was opened at the Amanzimtoti Police Station.

Oh I think I know exactly who they are. Late at night along the Dolphin Coast they hop from one pub to the next threatening patrons, starting fights, beating up people including staff. They openly flirt with other people's girlfriends and wives and people are afraid of them because they are armed and you pick on one, they all get stuck in.

They are well connected to the bottom of the barrel white trash all along the South Coast. They are considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Whenever I was at a watering hole and these guys walked in, I put my beer down, picked up my keys and walked straight out without making eye contact.

There's something missing here.

It does hey. Sure, the cops say those bikers are well known bullies, but bikers don't usually attack someone without provocation.

This is my thought. The pastor must have done something... could have even been insignificant to provoke the arrogant fools to attack their vehicle.

+1

I struggle to believe it was a completely unprovoked attack. Not that it makes it any better, of course.

Also, his profession is clearly used to try and sway readers into believing that he could never be guilty of provoking them and that his side of the story is the only one worth any credibility.

"The pastor must have done something". Has nobody ever heard of unruly mobs going out looking for trouble and carrying out unprovoked attacks on identified targets?

Of course, but that's hardly the norm.

The question you need to ask yourself is this: of all the cars that these bikers passed, why this one?

They might have been edging to begin with but something would've still have had to set them off.

Even "unprovoked" attacks are largely provoked by factors such as race, gender, sexual orientation, dress, personality, body language or even a misinterpreted glance.

But the man was simply driving his car--so again, why him and not any of the other drivers around them? It's hardly as though they left their bar and attacked the first car on sight.

I believe the dear pastor did something to upset them. Whether something as small as merging into their lane, not moving out of their way, hooting at one of them or even just shooting one of them a dirty look. Who knows.

I'm also not saying that it was necessarily deserved, simply that it's unlikely he "did nothing."
