I saw a website somewhere that had a registry hack where you change the value of a specific reg key from 1 to 0 and its back to the old start menu.

Maybe MS keep it for safe mode or something.

Not a Safe Mode. You can be certain that there'll be an on-off switch for Metro when the prod finally ships, though not all versions might have it exposed. Many corporates will want to keep Desktop + Start Menu for now. Microsoft hasn't said anything publicly because they want feedback from the market without it being contaminated by stated intentions.

Windows 8 is really disappointing, and I tried it as my primary OS for a few weeks. Metro is basically a simple gui shell over windows 7, otherwise nothing else new and no innovation. Even Unity is miles ahead of this crap.

Their motto seems to be "lets dumb things down because most people don't know computers" instead of "Lets make things more intuitive so using computers just comes naturally"

So after being a windows user consistently since 95 last week I bought a macbook pro, and Lion has really blown me away - it's the best OS I've ever used.

I haven't tried Windows 8 yet. I've used Dos, Windows 3.1 and every other version thereafter. I tried OS X Snow Leopard on a hackintosh I built and a few months later bought a MacBook Pro. It is better than Windows in many, many ways. However, gaming sucks. Hardware is fine. Support for top quality games is poor. Thats why I still have my Windows 7 PC for rFactor. Thats all I do with it.

I've always been a fan of Bill Gates. Would love to see him return.
