Billion 5102S synching problem

Well, I've had ADSL for just under two weeks now and have been loving it. However, my Billion 5102S router has developed serious synching problems, so much so that since Thursday I am virtually unable to access mail or the web. One in every twenty tries might get me access to a site (If I'm lucky).

I've had a Telkom technician out who tested my line with his router diagnostic thingy and the line turns up squeaky clean. I have tried resetting the 5102S, but no joy (it still seems to retain some settings). I have searched through the MyADSL forums and discovered that sometimes firmware needs to be updated, however, there is no new firmware listed for the 5102S.

I phoned Billion (Nology in Pta) who told me that I need to take the modem back to Digital Planet (Jhb). However, I am in Pta! I spoke to a gentleman who was fairly sympathetic who said that he would mail new firmware to me. However, I haven't received this yet--but judging from the website, there is no new firmware yet...

Anyone got some suggestions on fixing this synching problem? It's really frustrating!!

If there is a physical reset switch on ur router, press and HOLD the switch for a while, that usaly clears ALL data from the router. Have a look in the manual to see if there is a way to restore to factory settings, then wipe all data...

Phone and ask them to mail the firmware to you again, often the techies have access to a firmware that no one bothered to put onto the website, so its worth a try. And even if it is the same firmware you have currnetly, doing a firmware upgrade can sometimes wipe all current settings from the device.

What is your DSL version ... somewhere on the webpage admin screen ???

It should read something like this DSL Version: Y.1.31.1
 
Thanks guys. Resetting the modem doesn't solve the problem. I'm going to have to wait for newer firmware. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Thanks for the tip re: techies having access to firmware, brooko. I'll phone again tomorrow if I haven't received it by then.

tibby.dude, I'm not quite sure which is the number, there are a few:
RAS F/W Version: 2.2.21(TE2.B2)3.0.11
DSL FW Version: FwVer:3.0.11.15_A_TC HwVer:T14.F7_0.0

Does this mean anything to you?

My mistake...

It's time for humble pie... :o

Remember me posting about a synching problem with the Billion 5102S? Well, that was totally my mistake--instead, I experienced hitting the cap for the first time... I still thought I had 700Mb left.

I owe an apology to Nology and the Billion product line. I suppose I could blame the Telkom helpdesk for telling me my problem was synching instead of noticing that I had just reached the cap... :D But in all fairness, the helpdesk operator wasn't here and had to try to identify a possible cause telephonically.

I'd like to thank the chaps at Nology though, particularly Willie who drove to my place this morning to check out the router.

For anyone considering a Billion product, you can't go wrong. Apart from an excellent product, after sales service is superb!
