Sometime this evening, at around 8pm, I lost all Internet connectivity. DSL line is still on (ie synchronised with the exchange). Phoned Axxess, they said they could not see my router attempting to authenticate with them. Phoned Telkom, they confirmed my DSL line is alive.

When I look at the Billion ADSL status page, I see there is no IP allocated for the WAN. All the standard settings are correct - I even rebooted the modem 4 times (at increasingly longer intervals) - zilch. PPP doesn't want to establish a connection.

Tried another ADSL account, still the same issue. Tried changing it to bridge mode, then dialling up from the PC. Niks nie.

Is it possible that the WAN component of the Billion router has died? Has anyone experienced a similar problem whereby everything is kosher, except the router just won't authenticate or get an IP address? Could it be a problem at the ISP end?

Any feedback would be really appreciated... sucks being on dial-up. If it's the modem, then I need to swap it out tomorrow - but I'd like to eliminate all other possible causes.

Thanks

Already done that - correct (8 / 35). Doesn't explain why it died after working flawlessly for 2 months though.

OK - had a conversation with a friend who experienced exactly the same problem. Router synched with exchange, DSL light is lit, but won't authenticate. He phoned Telkom, and they came with their own modem, tested it, then swapped the DSLAM port.

Looks like I have exactly the same issue - will call Telkom tomorrow. Hope there's a free DSLAM port!
