Good Day

My devices keeps on loosing connection to my billion router after a few hours. The devices and still pickup the connection but cannot connect.

Any idea why this could be?

I noted a major problem with frequent packet loss to the gateway.
Download pingplotter or do a ping to the gateway 192.168.1.254.
If you see erratic latency or packet loss you're experiencing what I have. Billion don't have a fix for this. It's a known issue for some users. The workaround is to disable and enable the network adapter of the connecting device. Painful.

To be honest I have not found this router to be very reliable. My Netgear (ADSL) was much better.

So far I have no perfect solution to this problem. Most of the time its just DHCP, DNS, WINS that causes issues and one can still connect with IP's. Giving every device a static IP and using hosts entries solved this 80% of the time for me.

Even with that currently 1 of my devices just cannot see my file serve anymore no matter what I do :twisted: . Starting to think the solution is an expensive ASUS router ...
 
I have to admit, the 8800 NXL
is a good router but the constant wifi issues is really becoming a problem, thinking of returning the router and replace it with an Asus router
 
I have a Zyxel SBG-3300 and have no Wi-Fi issues :) Still on ADSL, while I wait for Telkom to one day activate my VDSL (been waiting for a week now).

Had a TP-Link before and that was just so crap.

I would if the window for that was still open.

I now have to run ethernet cable to my TV as the Wifi cant even handle a 2Mb/s Netflix SD stream. Last billion device I own.

I've decided to give up the battle with the Billion. There was a bit of a tussle with the distributor, but they agreed to take it back.
I've picked up a Zyxel VMG1312-B10A and 'am going to pair that with an Asus RT-68AC (hopefully arriving tomorrow).
Will use the Zyxel as a modem, with the Asus as the WiFi router. Total cost of that R3076. Steep but better than an all-in-one VDSL AC device.
Certainly didn't want to spend that much, but I've been pulling my hair out with the abysmal streaming and constant WiFi glitches.

I have exact setup. Asus gives awesome wifi range, with the Zyxel offering a very stable connection. Very good combo for my VDSL connection.

Which firmware are you using on the VMG1312?

The out-the-box version was atrocious by Nology's admission "It doesn't work and you need to upgrade to the latest". So that I did. Currently running V1.00(AAJZ.7)D0, which is a heap better however I'm having some issues. The admin interface is seriously iffy. WiFi settings, specifically channel and bandwidth, are arbitrarily reset when you tweak settings on other pages. WPS being checked on the "Other" WiFi page caused my WiFi password to be set to the router admin password. Unchecking this reverted the functionality to the expected i.e.: the password stays unchanged.

My issue tho isn't with the admin frontend. It's with the WiFi functionality. Regardless of what I do certain channels e.g.: 2, 3, 9 simply do not broadcast on 40mhz. The router states it's broadcasting on 40mhz but it isn't. It's broadcasting on 20mhz... and sometimes... it arbitrarily hops to 40mhz bumping speeds from 130mbps to 300mbps. Weird.

Anyway wanted to establish how well it was performing before I handed off the WiFi to the Asus.

I have the exact same router with the exact problem. I have to disable and enable the NIC everytime. :cry:

Zyxel running V1.00(AAJZ.3)b1_D0. Connection is stable as a rock, already had the asus so never really played with its Wifi capabilities though.
 
I'm using the Billion 8800 NXL purely as a VDSL modem @ 40 Mbps. It has been stable as a rock, much better than the netgear and pace modems from Telkom I have used. I disabled the Wifi on the Billion, using Mikrotik as PPPoE router and Ubiquiti UniFi AP's for Wifi.

+1 on this, except mines for normal ADSL2 and I use the mikrotik for wifi.
