It's an intentionally badly worded headline to allude to buying them outright.

All that's required to make it a good headline are the words "stocks in" or "shares in" or even better remove buys entirely and say "invests in" outright.

If they had put the word, "shares" on the end it would be a more honest title. Without it, it is worded in such a way as to make you think he purchased the companies (as is now the owner). Or can be easily confused as such.

So you expected that he'd bought Google and Amazon, for what, $2.5 trillion each, when you read that title?

I guess they do need to be more expressive with their titles.

I didn’t, but it’s most certainly what the click bait headline implies and this very argument means they succeeded.
