Hey

just want to find out if any1 has signed up with binc and what the service / speeds have been like?

This is for their R1990 uncapped 4mbps accounts im interested in...

I believe it is just Digichilli rebranding, could be wrong but thought I read this some where here....

I signed up

I signed up with them... It worked really well for the first two days, then it all died... I contacted the ISP and the main guy (Andrew) said they were having trouble with DSLAM units.

E-mail on the 11th of March 2010 :
We have noticed an issue with the Radius server that prevents accounts from properly authenticating again once disconnected. Until this issue is resolved do not turn off your ADSL router because you will not be able to browse the internet again until it is fixed.

E-mail on the 12th :
I’d just like to give you a status update on the repairs that are being effected with our upstream provider. Last night when the Telkom DSLAM ports reset it managed to cause a catastrophic failure on the RADIUS server and in the process managed to damage the gateway router. The network engineers have been working on the problem the whole day and I have been in contact with them the whole day to find out how long it will take. They have informed us that they will continue working on the problem until it is solved.

I will continue to keep you updated and about the status of the repair. Hopefully it will be sorted as soon as possible. In the meantime please continue using the accounts provided to you as a backup. As soon as the accounts are live we will let you know

and the 14th :
My apologies for keeping you waiting. We have been trying to get the problem sorted. The SAIX people cannot explain why we have the problem that we do. They have been working on it since Thursday evening. We are working on arranging a Seacom account by tomorrow morning that will be uncapped again that will be in use until the other connection can be fixed. We should have our own platform by the end of the month with IPINX that will allow us a lot more flexibility in terms of products and service offerings. At the moment we are at the mercy of others.

Please bear with us as we sort out this problem. We will get it sorted. The accounts we gave to you may still be used. There is quite an extensive cap on each account.

They've provided us with accounts from Afrihost in the meantime... so far they've been very speedy with replies and they've been very friendly. At R 2000 a month for unshaped, uncapped 4mbit I'm willing to give them time, provided they give some sort of discount for all this downtime. I've already exhausted the account they've given me and have gone onto Axxess prepaid for now.

Their customer service, so far, has been damn better than another ISP I've been with for years.

Should I go rant about my previous ISP? or is it not really worth it ?

hey

thx for the detailed reply. yeah initial problems with a new isp is expected, but the great customer service and backup accounts make up for that. will see if they get all this sorted by the end of the month i might switch my account over to them.

thanks for the reply! :)

No worries :) .

They've been really nice to me so far, receive regular updates via e-mail and SMS. I'm definitely willing to be patient.

As soon as they're back on line I'll post updates here.

I'll try P2P just now.

My router reports :

ADSL Firmware Version 4.01.02.00
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 4096 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 512 kbps
VPI 8
VCI 35

It used to indicate 640kbps downstream when I was on 512.

New connection difficulties

Connection's gone down again, it's been down since the 16th of April (3 days so far). They have provided temporary Afrihost accounts (seems to be capped around 5 - 10 GB) and they have kept their subscribers informed.

I tried to put one of my clients onto them.

The mistake I made was subscribing to them on 16 April 2010 and paying on that date.

The client had about half an hour of service before everything went bottoms up.

The latest I've heard was

Good morning,

It is with great regret that I must inform you that all binc accounts have been suspended until further notice, due to the inability of our providers (the host server I have mentioned) to provide us with a quality and reliable service. Being a reseller, this is causing our good reputation to be damaged. This reselling was merely for the interim period between our startup and gaining access to our own Seacom link, but unfortunately it has not worked as intended, due to the incompetence of others.

Our providers managed to get the host server up and running for a few hours, only to have it crash again. As I mentioned, we are purely a reseller at the moment and therefore had no control over the repair process. Once we have our Seacom link up, we will be in control of the situation, and I can guarantee that this incident will not repeat itself.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this situation has caused you, and we will refund you pro-rata at the end of the month for the days that you were without connectivity. In addition to this, once our Seacom link is up and running, you will all be receiving a month’s free uncapped access at the maximum possible speed.

As I said, it leaves me with great regret that the situation has reached this point where we have inconvenienced good, paying customers at their expense, due to the fault of others. binc was created to be the foremost in service provision, but that goal has been tarnished by the poor service that we aimed to replace.

If there are any enquiries regarding anything else, feel free to send an e-mail.

Kind regards,

Sylvester Kuisis

Needless to say, the end of the month came and went without BINC refunding us.

Remember, in business, you buy a product, pay the supplier, add your markup and charge the client. It's really not fun when your "stock" disappears before you can sell it.

This is very upsetting as I've lost R1,800 that I assume I'll never see again. Add to that the fact that I then had to connect the client to an MWEB uncapped unshaped out of my own pocket that cost me two and a half grand, these people have cost me over R4,000.

I am not a happy camper.

Hey portcullis

I'm in a similar boat, considering I paid the full amount for the service but stopped receiving it on the 16th (my situation doesn't sound nearly as bad as yours though).

I've switched to MWEB Business Uncapped... and so far it's fantastic :D It's not quite as fast as BINC in terms of raw throughput (probably VPN overhead?) but websites always load, things stream properly and Google works properly too, plus I have my static IPs! I'm so happy :D . Mweb's been really good with my support queries too (updating reverse DNS, switching from firewall to Live IP, etc.).

Anyway, I guess I better go ask BINC for my money back.

Hey aquarat,

Please let me know if you have any luck with that.

I asked on the 16th.
Then three more times during April 2010.
I then asked at the end of the month.

Nothing.

One month later and let's just say that the money has not been refunded.

Bad Bad BINC.
