Hi!

I recently upgraded to windows 7.....absolutely stunning compared to vista! :D
But with this upgrade i bought myself a new hardrive. Its a brand new seagate 500Gb SATA II drive. Now my plan was to keep my old IDE 200Gb and also put it in there.

So the order of my drives would be this.....

IDE Primary - 200Gb
IDE Secondary - DVD-RW
SATA 1 - 500GB (This drive has windows on it btw)
SATA 2 - Nothing

But my BIOS doesn't want to see it like that. It either picks up my IDE HDD or my DVD-ROM, but not both.

Even when inserted in the correct order (of the IDE cable) and when specifically setting the HDD to master and the DVD-ROM to slave, nothing works. When i unplug the HDD it shows the DVD-ROM in the BIOS and Windows, and when i unplug the DVD-ROM it shows the HDD in the BIOS and Windows. In both cases both devices are fully functional in windows.

But the moment i plug in both, the HDD takes priority and the DVD-ROM is not detected.

I've tried different combination's like using cable select on HDD and on the DVD-ROM, but it still gives the same effect.

Please i really would like to sort out!

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a second IDE port? If you do, put the DVD on the secondary IDE connector and see what happens.

Check your jumper settings on both your hard drive and your DVD-RW.

Hdd should be set to master.
DVD-RW set to slave.

I only have 1 IDE port unfortunately :)

And yes i've done that, was the 1st thing i did :D
still doesnt work.

thanks for the quick responses ^^

Ah, read your post properly now.

Have you tried using a different IDE cable? Tried switching the hdd and DVD-RW around? I.e. Making the hdd primary slave?

I highly doubt the IDE cable will be faulty, since it's new out of the box with my motherboard, nevertheless, now harm in trying!

Also i have tried that combination as well still no success. Ive tried these following combination's as well...

HDD - Primary Master
DVD - Primary Slave

HDD - Cable Select
DVD - Primary Slave

HDD - Primary Master
DVD - Cable Select

HDD - Cable Select
DVD - Primary Master

HDD - Primary Slave
DVD - Cable Select

I have even tried the above combination's while the IDE cable was the wrong way around (as in Master plugged into Slave and vice versa)
Yep i really want it to work :P
