BIOS Flashing

It should be doable. I have personally only used 3.5 stiffies or USB memory sticks for BIOS flashing but the principle remains the same. Make a bootable CD (with DOS) and also burn your BIOS update file onto that. Then boot from the CD and run your flash software. BTW with newer mobos you can flash from within Windows.

Sure. You can easily brick a working mobo by sommer flashing for the heck of it. I always make 100% sure that I've got the correct BIOS version for my board (including possible board revisions) before flashing. I aslo always run off a UPS while flashing.

But it is broke!

I have a 320Gb SATA HDD and a 200Gb IDE HDD. Both hard drives are being read as a 127Gb HDD. Does that mean it's broke?(sic)

Yeah, sounds like it. If your BIOS misreports the size of your HDD then you've got a problem. Having said that, any SATA-equipped mobo should allow for bigger than 127GB discs, unless the BIOS is buggy. Check the BIOS revision history for that particular board on the manufacturer's website.

I've just recently installed a 500GB ATA disc in an old P3 that I still use, FWIW.

what's xp sp2 got anything to do with it? it reports disc size before loading os!!

That board should have no problem correctly identifying your HDDs. Have you checked your cabling? A faulty ATA cable can give you endless trouble. Also, check the jumper settings on the HDD.
