BIOS Updates - where to get them from...

Yep as stated above. If you're not sure what motherboard you have you can use a utility like CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php) to give you information on your motherboard and chipset. A quick Google after that will generally lead you to the manufacturer's website.
 
Thats not your motherboard, thats your chipset thats on the motherbaord, VIA dont make motherboards, except for reference ones for other manufacturers to copy. Try a program like CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php to see what the motherboard (aka mainboard) is. Then look up the manufacturer named in that.
