Ok, so far my Bioshock 2 experience is pure FAIL. Played for about 2 hours last night without signing up a Win Live account (thought it was needed for multiplayer only) and today I find out that I have no saved games coz I wasn't signed in.

So I created a Windows Live account. Signed in and d/l'ed the patch, restarted the game. Now when I want to log in it says I can't sign in because Windows Live is not supported in my region or something.

How the **** am I meant to play then?

Just tried that on my Microsoft Live profile page - changed it to a UK address and it doesn't work.

Live isn't officially supported in South Africa, and because you've registered your Live profile under South Africa, you won't be able to use that Live profile to log into the game (you can change your email address on your Live profile page, but it'll refuse to allow you to change your country - if I'm not mistaken). You can either create a new Live profile with a new email and register under the US or UK as your country (if you want to play multiplayer), otherwise if you're just interested in single player, start the game and bring up the Live overlay, create a new profile and choose an OFFLINE profile. It won't try to log you onto the Live servers anymore, and you'll be able to play and save your game as usual. Unfortunately, it won't allow you to play multiplayer.

So we pay full price for a game that's not supported in South Africa. **** this, I'm taking it back.

Thought I'd try out your recommendation anyway - created new email account, created Windows Live account with UK address. Tried signing into the game but it says I need to associate the windows live account with a Gamertag. When I get to the gamertag/xbox sign in page, even though my windows live account is registered in the UK, it has my region as South Africa (must be using my IP address). I can't change this in the exbox signup page and I don't see anywhere to create an offline account. WTF?

Wow this sounds like pure fail. I just played using an offline account. Worked fine for me. Finished the game and loved it. However what's with official Windows Live being so silly. Was thinking of buying it but if I can't actually sign in on the official thing, what's the point.

Did you use a co.za email address?

Pc windows live is supported because you can play Dawn of war 2 with it no problem.

Ok, that is a surprise. I'm using my 360 xbox gamertag that I registered to a UK address, and it's working properly. And I doubt that it's the IP. My line is on a fixed IP, and I have no problems. To create an offline (local) account, when you select to create a new account, and the text explaining the Live account comes up, scroll down right to the bottom and you'll see a hypertext-link like underlining under the words "create a local profile". Just click on it to create a local profile.

Edit: What postal code did you use for the UK address? When we were first trying to bypass the block for South Africa when the 360's first launched here, you could put UK as your country, but if you didn't use a valid UK postal code, it wouldn't allow you to continue with your gamertag registration. If you didn't use a valid postal code, try seeing if can change the postal code to a UK one. Otherwise, if you are feeling up to creating another live account, create a US account, put in your SA address, but in the postal code box, just put 90210 as your postal code, and Los Angeles as your city.

start the game up ...
When it asks to sign in with live account you have an option to also create a profile ...
Choose create a profile and scroll down the page, you should see a hyperlink that says something like 'play locally' or something to that extent
click the hyperlink and choose any name u want
follow what ever prompts there are ...

should work after this

Its a great game, but the Live issue farks is up....dunno why they went with live. I had to register4/5 times to eventually figure out WTF was going on. Sometimes I got no emails to activate an account...was a beeeg stuff up. 1 hour later, used a diff email address and it finally worked. What a way to ruin the experience before it even begins

The first time you use Windows Live is allways a stuff up. I still have nightmares about GTA5.....

But once it works it actually works well.

Yep...since I finally got it working...no problem...but damn...what a mission! Was in a bad mood after that episode...but 10 mins in Bioshock 2 and it was all smiles!
