So after TelkomZA said its not exchange congestion but the Master ATM link to the main exchange that is congested. That said how long will it take to optimize this. Here is the info TelkomZA gave me.

"my records or test tools indicate to me that Birdswood IMAX is feeding off ATM link - Alton Master Uplink , and this is congested - i have spoken to the Specialist at our Data Test and Assurance Centre and they have assured me that the NNOC is in the process of Optermizing the ATM trunk "

Today I was unable to play any online games and had to put up with a 0.8Mbps connection the whole evening on my paid for 4Mbps line. I'm really getting fed up with this. TelkomZA is doing a awesome job but I can't blame him if someone else doesn't do their job or take their time. In the mean time I sit with a adsl line that can only be used business hours.

I guess this "Birdswood IMAX is feeding off ATM link - Alton Master Uplink" is why I won't ever get 10Mbps or atleast not anytime soon.

I thought no one uses VOX, whats the point of VOX?

There one specific package that everyone should use ;) *what's the first rule of bolt-on, no-one speaks of bolt-on*

This is pretty bleak :/ Just a small tip, try contacting your local office instead of the call centre :) Whenever I do that, they seem to get things done :D

So no feedback no action and still enjoying my 890ms ping in League of Legends.... TelkomZA also stopped replying to my pm's I guess he lost hope too.... Sigh I hope the people that are clearly not doing their job here just gets fired. How do people that don't do nothing actually get the job?

Well I'm logging a fault the whole time until they fix it. Even if the tech has to come to my house 1000 times I will keep on reporting the faults. I got confirmation that there is congestion so if they want to charge me call out fee I will take them on.

Just a final check, got POTS filter's on everything? Those things are a pain when they break. (Alarms etc included :) )

Also, what DNS are you using?

I followed the checklist.

*Changed pots filter with brand new sealed one. Still the same.

*Changed ISP details. Used Mweb 5gb still the same, Vox fat pipe unshaped still the same, afrihost 1GB free account, still the same and last the webafrica 40GB capped account I got for R1 still the same no change.

*Using default DNS since changing providers did not change anything.

*Changed my router to my Mweb FON router and getting the same performance

Got confirmation from support and TelkomZA that the main ATM uplink is congested. If it was a router,DNS,ISP or line problem why is is limited to 6pm to 9pm the rest of the time my adsl line max @ full speed. I downloaded a episode during the day today @ full speed. ATM I'm not even getting 1Mbps speed with local latency of over 500ms.

Damn :/

Oh well - hope you come right soon!

Telkom makes me SICK to the stomach..... Admits to a congested uplink and does nothing but close my fault I log the whole time...

Disgusting I tell you.

So Telkom closed my faults like 4 times and I just reopened them. TelkomZA is now working very hard with me and even phoned me to help get this sorted when the guys Optimizing the ATM link said that its fine and they are not going to do anything.

Look at these result with 4 ISP's. TelkomZA agrees with me that there is congestion buy he is kinda losing the fight with the NNOC

So I basically give up now..... I'm still fighting and fighting and fighting but nothing is being done.

They just close my faults the whole time and TelkomZA is no longer replying to ANY of my pm's.

I went to the store and lost it and they created a fault that was simply closed the next day. A technician does not even come here. They just close the fault....

The ping on the exchange hop is always over 100ms during peak times 6pm to 9pm. During the day the exchange hop is 9ms.

I tested with 4 ISP's and all the same yet telkom say its not their fault even though I provided them with proof that its the exchange and that I have confirmation from TelkomZA that the atm uplink is congested.

The last response I got from TelkomZA is that they have increased the bandwidth. When I told him that the latency is still high he then blamed that the public holidays there are higher traffic than normal and thats why.

So yeah it is congested cause there is traffic but it should not be like that.

I don't know what to do anymore cause I even prayed for help but that did not workl either. They make me so sick. I have now been holding for 1 hour 20min for 10210 but no answer..........

Still battling to get this fixed. TelkomZA is USELESS I wish they can be removed from a rep status. Yes you Gerard...

I have to just accept a 250ms ping on the exchange and they refuse to accept that anything is wrong. I'm playing some online games today with adsl and the ping on euw in League of legends is 600ms......

I switched to afrihost and playing on MTN LTE with only 1 bar and my latency is 204ms..... WTF

I hate Telkom so much. Stop closing my fault plz. I have reported a total of 48 faults which are just being closed the whole time......

I logged a fault today again and just got a call from Eddie in Cape Town. He said it looks like there is heavy traffic on the exchange and it would cause high latency.

He told me that 12 people on the birdwoods exchange complained about high latency and slow speed.

Now does any one here know how this setup will work.

Birdswood IMAX is served by Alon main exchange. They say its the ATM uplink to the main exchange that is congested. Its also the reason why we can't get 10Mbps cause its just served by a uplink and not metro ethernet.

Why would Telkom do this since the Birdswood exchange is serving a lot of people and by a lot I mean A LOT.

Here is a pic of the area that is covered by this 1 very old and out dated exchange.

@ Cavedog and his CONGESTED BIRDSWOOD EXCHANGE SERVER:I know this is an old thread but I am also gatvol for paying for the "fastest(4mb)hahaSpeed" but do not receive it, and yes south Africa is waaaaaaayyyyyy behind. From Foreign countries ppl show us their download speeds of +500mbs and pings of below 10ms and frankly that salt does not burn my wounds as much as Telkom is fueling my rage when I speak to clerks at 10210 and all they can do is reset the ports which they think sorts out *** latency.
Everyone in SA has to go through Telkom, does not matter what ISP you use-which leaves us South African online gamers at the low end of performers when it comes to competitive PS3 gaming to overseas servers (European servers only, forget to even try and play on American/Australian/Asian Servers)
Apparently the birdswood exchange is on the map to be upgraded soon, but again could only be another empty promise since 2012, when they pulled in the optic fibres, which I think never tied in with the birdswood exchange server in the first place. The national exchanges i.e Jo'burg ,Cape Town and Durbs are all gold star rated(first preference). apparently the one neighbourhood near birdswood has a bronze star rating and that is Arboretum, which is why they were upgraded to 10mbs ions ago.
Now for the bitter truth- The Sea Cable that gives RSA internet comes in at Mtunzini only a few km from the birdswood exchange where you live-lekke nê!
I really hope that my love for TELKOM would one day return...along with my low ping and promised 10mbs line.
