I fail to understand as to why the cellular operators have yet to launch BIS for the Android OS. I think its quite short sighted of them that 2 years down the line and still nothing!

BIS = Blackberry Internet Service - Blackberry being the operative word.

Dont see why they would offer this when they can make more money charging for the data you using.

You can use BIS on HTC windows mobile 6 so I don't see a reason why not on Android -catweasel

Can you use it on WM? Wow! I mean, I have both WM and Android on my phone...what can I do?

How can you have both OS on a single phone?

Is BIS even available for Android? If it is then I can understand querying the providers however I think you'll find the software originates from RIM and they have little incentive anymore to cannibalise their hardware sales.

@bwana so how do you explain Windows mobile and RIM cause you can have BIS on WM 6?

Sure there have been exceptions in the past, but i doubt we are going to see that in the future.

A more pertinent question is why haven't Google (or other OS/handset manufactures) launched a similar offering to BIS for their respective devices?

Most smartphone deals in the USA have unlimited 3G!

RIM are no longer supporting BIS on other platforms, which is why it's not available on android, and it has limited functionality on windows mobile (it may not be available for Win 7). Bear in mind when RIM had introduced this idea Android did not exist and they have made no move to expand it since the introduction. However there has been talk of creating a Blackberry OS application for other platforms that would run BIS (but the last I heard of that was more than a year ago) it would appear the idea is dead and BIS will only be for Blackberry's and those handsets they initially supported. Pure speculation on my part as they have not made any official announcement regarding this.
