I just had an interesting call with vodacom.

Turns out that on vodacom prepaid if you take bis and choose to have it auto renew, which is the logical option for someone who owns a blackberry, there is absolutely no way for them to deactivate the renewal, and better yet, you as a customer have no way of doing it either. The only way for it to be done is for you to ensure that you have insufficient funds in your account on the dat that it renews and the service will automatically cancel.

SO basically for a low airtime user, like say my mother who uses maybe R80 a month including the BIS who has now decided she no longer wants it as everyone she knows is on whatsapp and that works without BIS anyway and she really does not take advantage of the actual service.

Basically what vodacom needs you to do is use your airtime, even if you don't actually need to, too ensure that you don't have enough money in your account so that you then cannot pay for a service you don't want.

It sound pretty straight forward to me, I wouldn't complain about it, simply don't buy airtime on that date.....

Thazts all well and good if you don't have airtime, but what about those that do, what if you got a few hundred rands, or if you choose to buy a new phone that's not a berry. If you now don't use all that airtime before your next renewall then u loose R60.

Like rite now my moms got R80 and suddenly decided enough of BIS and with my moms usage R80 could last 3-4 months.

Just out of interest was wondering if your mom has actually tried to cancel it from her phone by trying the following:

How do I cancel it?
SMS “BlackBerry Stop” to 100

USSD: MyPhone Menu (*111#dial) and select “Balance Enquiry”
From the menu , select “Cancel BlackBerry Subscription”

To be honest in all my dealings with vodacom (and most cell phone shops) I am surprised the people I have spoken to even have the capacity to dress themselves let alone give advice on such matters. If you have already tried the above and it did not work, you could always do a airtime transfer to another prepaid phone and once the BIS is cancelled due to insufficient funds, transfer the airtime back. Yes its a pain but thats what you get for supporting Vodacom :p

Or you log on to Vodacom.co.za and terminate your blackberry service?
