BitCo Consumer Review

+1000. A survey would help bring this to light. I don't know how many like this leaky bucket system but i sure don't like it at all. Basically they are saying if you attempt to actually use your line a bit for more than 30 minutes you are crossing some line :wtf: . And to make it worse the leaky bucket also applies to business accounts where we all know there is some heavy windows updates & other update traffic which just means a business will mostly be sitting with half their line speed but still paying full price. Bitco i think you have to consider other options to manage the traffic. Leaky bucket is a big FAIL!

A survey would sure help put an end to this, Bitco is very happy with the leaky bucket system as it means you pay full price but if you try to properly use your line they only have to give you half the speed so more money for them.

I don't see why a soft cap would not better suit a ISP and make everyone happy. If you are an abuser and consume 400GB a week for argument sakes then you will be throttled for a week for example. while the people who actually do streaming and the downloads etc but don't go crazy will be fine. most ISP's i have seen do this and don't hear any complaints about it besides the ones from the abusers lol

I see everyone talking about a survey on how happy everyone is with Bitco. lets do our own.
using this thread and a google docs surveys and post the results here.
pm me a list of items you all want surveyed and ill put it together.

Fantastic idea :-)

Here are a few questions from my side of the top of my head

1. What package are you on
2. What services do you use on your internet package. Streaming, gaming, downloading, torrenting etc
3. How much data would you say you consume in an average month
4. Do you get throttled at all, if so how often
5. Would you prefer a Soft Cap based on the package. 5MB - 500GB Cap. 10MB - 800GB cap a month for example
6. Would you consider a capped solution which would be a cheaper price which is not throttled, shaped or speed limited. 50GB, 100GB, 300GB, 500GB as an example and the option to buy extra data if needs be.

Please add anything else you can think of :-)

Whereas with Bitco almost everyone is complaining including light users who only use their lines after work. It's quite sick to treat your customers that way, we spend so many hours at work getting harassed and all only to come home and get harassed even more after 30 minutes by our half Internets that we pay full price for. Wish we could also throttle our payments

I am exactly the same as you, at work the whole day and my internet sits idle. i don't have any unattended downloads or anything of the sort. When i get home i have to be weary of how many episodes of a season i watch or how many movies i can watch else i will just get throttled

Lol, i wish i could do the same. that seems to go of every month without a hitch

I have mentioned it many times that i am sure people are not arguing why there is a FUP, people are complaining how Bitco is applying the FUP. I have never heard of this leaky bucket approach before here in SA but again i could be mistaken

All major ISP's either have capped accounts or a soft cap. Why is Bitco trying to be so different is the question ?

I would like to add my 2c with the following extracts from The ISPA (http://ispa.org.za/code-of-conduct/) code of conduct that Bitco (in my experience) is falling foul of. Bitco's contracts and FUP point customers to the ISPA for fairness so:

B. Privacy and confidentiality

ISPA members must respect the constitutional right of Internet users to personal privacy and privacy of communications.
ISPA members must respect the confidentiality of customers’ personal information and electronic communications, and must not gather, retain, sell or distribute such information to any other party without the written consent of the customer, except where required to do so by law.

(think DPI tool Bitco recently boasted about) DPI = Deep Packet Inspection

In their dealings with consumers, other businesses, each other and ISPA, ISPA members must act fairly, reasonably, professionally and in good faith. In particular, pricing information for services must be clearly and accurately conveyed to customers and potential customers.

ISPA members may only offer service levels which are reasonably within their technical and practical abilities.

ISPA members must uphold and abide by this Code of Conduct and adhere to the associated complaints and disciplinary procedures.

Lastly

BITCO I do not like being contractually bound to a company that does not feel the same obligation. The point a couple of posts age to throttle our payments.......... OCD'S OCD JUST WENT ADD.

After I upgraded to 10mbps I have never been shaped except when I run torrents. I stream Netflix all night/browse and no throttling.

I have also played csgo for last 3 months online and get 5ms-40ms ping with no issues.

Y'all mofo's gotta stop abusing torrents, if you want to do >400gb per month get something else.

Out of interest sake, did you have packet loss/lag spikes in csgo prior to upgrading to 10mb?

Happening to me right now, only after a few minutes line is at 2Megs. This is really really really really crappy. If this continues this contract will not be renewed, i heard good things about Sprintnet. Can't pay full price for half the service no man  . Leaky bucket SUX!!

They did this for an install i was responsible for. Came through for tests and gave thumbs up, came back again on installation day and bam --there is a problem with the signal it's not lekker enought for management etc etc---. They later on came and finished off the install. So one wonders how accurate the initial tests are then , or what they are meant for if they are not conclusive :erm:

Hi Kianm,

Thanks for the post.

Very often we will do an LOS for a customer or installation and have clear LOS but when we actually begin configuration we find the signal quality is below our standard and often have to make high site adjustments.

On the high site we have to ensure the equipment is pointing directly to the subscriber to ensure the highest quality CCQ is achieved

Doing LOS tests is a very good way to see if the link will work but not always possible to check full signal without starting installation and alignment.

I refuse to believe that.

Sure some people on here have legitimate issues and I want it fixed as much as they do. It saddens me that they are not getting what I'm getting. But I'm confident they are in the minority. Massive assumption I suppose but given my type of service I'm getting, I can't believe that the majority aren't exceptional happy.

Hi Guys,

I can confirm we do not have different bandwidth pools for our home broadband subscribers, everyone configuration and setup is exactly the same across our national network.

What we are starting to see is the 5Mbps connection is far more susceptible to reaching the FUP when compared to the 10Mbps package

All gaming and port optimization is exactly the same for all residential customers.

20k pm

Be patient young padawan.

Hi Guys,

The highest we currently go for Home Broadband is 10Mbps and we are considering a higher option.

As an example if you wanted a 30Mbps Symmetrical connection we deliver this for business customers on both Licensed Spectrum wireless and Fibre for a monthly fee of R10,295.00

Would a second dish(contract) be an option? Then bonding/load balancing done customer side.

Hi Kianm,

Thanks for the post

you statement above is not accurate, many customers have 5Mbps & 10Mbps packages who do not ever reach the FUP and are very happy with the service.

We find the power users reach the FUP on the 5Mbps line whereas the 10Mbps much less

Thanks for the info. Do we have to use that DNS address always from now if we have problems and does this apply to business accounts as well, seeing some people use OpenDns for security and some use Uno for streaming? Am using OpenDns but haven't had problems so far
