BitCo Consumer Review

Hi Wikkels88

An upgrade at any time is not a problem and we don't charge for any residential speed upgrades other than the newer monthly rate of course.

Hi rakabos3

We don't count how much data is used and will never offer capped products as we believe capping is very "old school". If we see constant unattended downloading during the day this would be considered abusing the service and we would alert you.

On a 5Mbps service you could watch Netflix or YouTube 24/7 and this would not be considered abusive. Many of our home Internet users download at night when we have excess international capacity and this is not a problem for us.

If this is the case, sign me up :p

So from your post would I be able to run downloads from 6pm to 6am or would this be considered abuse?

Oh and another thing, what exactly gets installed, reason for asking is I'm probably going to have to get a "go ahead" from the body corporate at my complex if a external apparatus is going to be installed

Ok my typical scenario is watching 720p content, which from my usage averages about 250gb per month on my 4mb ADSL. Would this be within typical tolerance? Also saying that its mostly after hours. Daytime is just email etc.

Hi Koosi

BitCo have many highsites on towers or buildings located across Gauteng, Kwazulu Natal, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit etc. We install a dish similar to a satellite dish on your roof and this connects to the closest tower. Some of our business customers and very busy highsites are connected via 1Gb fibre links.

We can provide 2Mb, 5Mb and 10Mb Uncapped Internet that is of really high quality as we do not have to contend services over Telkom IPC for DSL.

We have been providing services to business for several years and now we are entering the home market.

Neither my house or work are covered :(

I am just irked that bitco wont do a site survey without first accepting a quote and then can take up to 2 weeks to install and then what if it doesn't work, as in my case it looks borderline according to their coverage map.

Meanwhile other companies have exactly the opposite, first request to do a site survey and then send you their various options.

It's an external antenna.

Take it from someone who is the chairman of a large body corporate. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
Just go ahead and do it, if the body corporate has an issue with it, tell them to bugger off. if they get sticky, then tell them you will remove it once they provide a suitable alternatively as right now this connectivity increases the value of your property.

I honestly don't know where some of these "god complex" body corporates get off thinking they can decided what a owner can or cannot put on their unit as far as connectivity or TV goes.

Hi lived666

We have a very good system and process that takes into account the topology of the area when we do the RF planning for a link. We are also very conservative when we create our coverage maps.

These allow us to be fairly accurate in deciding whether or not a link will work. All of our links are also designed to be upgraded to 10Mbps and beyond.

We are fairly new to Home Internet and this is one of the things we are working on for our process. If anyone is truly concerned and don't want to sign up before a signal test we should be able to bring all the required paperwork with when we install.

Hope this explains better from our side.

No, not really.
Even if you come and do a LOS test and everything is hunky dory, doesn't mean I want to sign up immediately or at all.
So at the moment not only wont you do a LOS of sight test but you also won't send a map of where your towers are so I can get up on my roof and check for myself if yes or no, how strange, completely different to everyone else that has made contact.

If ure not gonna sign up after a successful test then why should they waste their time and effort? Good faith cuts both ways.

Pfft, most wireless companies offer a free LOS, actually some demand it before even sending prices.
