BitCo Consumer Review

Hi CptMilano,

Yes we are planning on building more high sites in that area as you just fall outside our current coverage area.

I will post a public update soon of all the high sites coming online this year as soon as i have the final list with go-live dates

Mike

Hi Mike, any update yet on the list? Especially if and when you're heading a little south to the Vaal.

So just to understand this
are we supposed to be capped after 6pm ?

because it would seem torrents and downloading are hard capped during the day 6am-6pm
but then in the evening you still have the bucket-spill-over-1hr-hour-thingy Policy.

so.. you double screwed if you download large games and demos

Hi Wikkels88

Can you log with [email protected] seems like same problem is back again from that high site and technical team would need to make adjustments

I also experience it Wikkels... No one has even tried to assist me in fixing it after numerous PM's..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1taxKv7C7iI&list=UUiZ49nM1z3RZ94Z-OlOkVxQ

Here is a Youtube Video explaining my in game performance.. (Watch the top right for ping)Please help Mike, I know you have tried to change some settings quite a while back, but it hasn't changed any of my experience.

Good luck getting it fixed.
I've had this issue for ages and bitco just dont give a **** to actually try and fix it. Despite numerous emails.

I'm so annoyed by bitco and their "just dont give a ****" attitude that I seriously wish I had never started this topic in the first place.
If I could take back anything good I've ever said about them, I would, it was completely premature.
If I did a review now, based on the current issues I have and lack of support I receive, no one would have taken out bitco.

Hi Murmaider

I think that is very harsh... You are on one of 3 or 4 high sites where there is extremely high interference levels and this has been communicated many times. I have given out my personal Skype to debug and test with some individual gamers. It is currently 00:30 and I am currently looking at the gaming latency issues.

We have been serving business bandwidth very succesfully for several years and we have had to suddenly adapt and implement QoS and shaping policies to combat huge abuse via torrents from the thousands of new subscribers added in the last 6 months.

What we have done over the last two months to try resolve the gaming latency is test and redo our entire QoS policy on routers at layer3 and the distribution network at layer 2. This involves about 10 thousand network devices. This is why I have not been active on the forums recently nor been able to respond personally to everyone. The new QoS policies were completed over the weekend and finalised last night.

Some of the other work we have done; installed new 10Gbps core switching equipment and migrating to our new 10Gbps core router and firewall over the new 2 weeks. This was a several million rand investment.

We are also about to add a new cable system to increase our international bandwidth by 40% and further reduce latency to parts of Europe and Asia.

The upgrade of our multi gigabit fibre distribution ring around Johannesburg and Midrand will also be completed and lit in the next few months. This will quadruple our current distribution capacity and reduce latency in and around Johannesburg.

So I can promise that we are all hard at work ensuring that we bring the highest quality Internet with the absolute lowest contention ratios and latencies to everyone and that we really do "give a ****"

So just to understand this
are we supposed to be capped after 6pm ?

because it would seem torrents and downloading are hard capped during the day 6am-6pm
but then in the evening you still have the bucket-spill-over-1hr-hour-thingy Policy.

so.. you double screwed if you download large games and demos

can i maybe get an answer to this bitco reps ?

Hi ReDeeMer,

Our Broadband products are not capped so you will not ever reach a physical limit.

All services are open during the day except Torrents are slowed down to allow prioritized services from 6am - 6pm thereafter torrents are open

The connection should be perfect for all other services during the day and should not affect your Online Gaming, Media Streaming or general web usage

Large unsolicited downloads after hours will still be subject to the FUP so Torrents will be limited to 50% of your line speed if done at full speed for a prolonged period of time.

We have completed the new FUP and will shortly be rolling this out to all users on our network, i will post some detail later today on exactly how this will work.

but lets see how it goes

I personally think it's a usage issues more than a provider issue. I subscribed to Bitco for 1 reason mainly: Gaming. The patches and updates I had to do on a monthly bases broke the bank using 3G and other service providers. I stumbled onto this thread and thought, brilliant let's give it a swing. So in essence I upgraded from Iburst/3G to Bitco. MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT! Constant pings, apart from 2 evenings that I have had Bitco now I have had slight connection issues but which network doesn't have it? Out of about 4 months of flawless internet I have had 2 evenings of up and down internet.

Since I had the capacity I figured, why not give streaming a go. Again, not the reason I got Bitco but Bitco worked for it so there was no issues. the FUP affected the streaming quality slightly and Bitco went out of their way to accommodate the streaming users as per request.

I must be honest and admit that some times I do use Bittorrent for a series season or downloading other stuff. Note this is not my reason for having internet to begin with and I'm fine with a series taking 2 days to download if need be.

For Porn I just watch Redtube, no need to download huge porn movies :D

Anyway, that is a bit of over share. What I'm trying to say is the following: If you want to torrent and download 24/7, yes Bitco is probably not for you. For us normal folks, Bitco is the perfect bang for buck alternative to ADSL. Unfortunately there are gamers like Murmaider that has issues with his connection and I honestly do hope Bitco can get it sorted for him. I saw first hand what he's experiencing and it does suck at his level of competition. I have not had such problems and I'm 100% happy.

My biggest appreciation is the fact that I post on here at 22:00 or 24:00 at night and get a PM from the Directors helping me. Now please tell me which other provider will help you on a forum that time of the evening? Mike, Garth, I'm an extremely satisfied customer and I do know you guys are probably getting a lot of growing pains now. Thank you for looking after our interests when it comes to gaming and streaming.

Please may I only ask you guys don't drop the ball on your customer support? I have never had to use that support route thanks to MyBB but would hate for me to have to use it and I don't get customer service. This seems to have been a problem as of late looking at the posts. *Think of it as positive criticism.*

communicated many times? What?

This is the first time anyone has even mentioned this. This is the first response I have had to my issues since Leonard said my issue was due to downloading, even when there was no usage on my connection.

please forward this "said" communication that you speak of. I have sent about 6 emails to Mike which have been ignored. I have phoned support serveral times and have just been told they would look into it and no one gets back to me. I have posted many times in this topic about no one getting back to me and still no one gets back to me. I have sent PM's which also get ignored. Not once has anyone mentioned interference on the tower behind clearwater mall or horizon view. So you might view my post as harsh, but it still stands.

Feel bitco pain

I feel all you guys pain with Bitco. Had 2 surveys done (denied) even though my neighbor 220 meters behind me had his service installed with his dish pointing directly towards me. I'm on 3'rd floor, his on 3'rd floor, I'm 7km away from tower, his 7,2km away from tower. The guy who completed my last survey said he would install as he can see the tower and it's good but his manager told him no which he couldnt understand. Not even garth would get involved and ignored my posts to him, meaning go-away, we dont want ya.

Excuses of tree's being in the way are rubbish. Check the pic of the neighbor dish pointing towards me ...

So Bitco visit my place today. No LOS

So it looks like Telkom 2meg line is what it has to be. That is the max speed allowed in the area.

Hi Cloud-Nine

i know exactly where you live, you are just across from me in Douglasdale on Niven road

your neighbor was very lucky to get that link as by default we don't do such far links and i can see his signal quality is not too great

Our infrastructure Director wont allow any more weak signal links onto that high site as it will pull the sector antenna down for all the customers connected.

On a positive note we are going to be building 2 more high sites which you should defiantly see:

1: Large red and white Lattice Tower in the middle of North riding
2: Douglasdale Shopping Center

I don't have time frames yet on when these sites will be active but as soon as i know i will let you know as i will also be connected to one of them for my home link

Mike
