BitCo Consumer Review

Week 2 and still getting the runaround from Bitco regarding the activation.

HI Ngcolisto,

i have sent you a second PM in response to your query and explained the high site installation was completed on the 6th of November so soak test started yesterday 10th of November and you link should be handed over later today or tomorrow morning.

Please PM us if you don't have activation later today so we can escalate internally

We need to ensure the link is 100% perfect before handing over to a customer this is the reason for the testing period & quality control

Link still not active.Called Bitco and nobody seems to know why the director has not handed me over for activation.

Richard promised to investigate and call me back. But he probably wont call back.

Hi
I am currently suffering on a Telkom 4meg line with Afrihost as ISP. I have nothing against Afrihost BUT Telkom is a different story. Every time it rains my connection starts going on and off. You can't even do banking as you never know when the line will go dead. If you phone Telkom they say "If we come out and nothing is wrong it will cost you R300 and something." That is B*****t. A Telkom guy told me a few years back that the Telkom cables at my complex is old and full of that white rust but still Telkom has done nothing.

I would really love the opportunity to wave goodbye to them and start a fresh with out having to phone Hellkom every second week.

I have read through most of this thread and found it very informative. There is some things that is still not very clear:

1.If you download torrents after 6PM and before 6AM how will the throttling be handled? Will the download stay at full speed or will it go down to 2mbps?

2.In the FAQ you say if a 5meg line is throttled it goes down to 2meg is that the lowest the line speed will go?

3. My son watches an a lot of Youtube videos on games and stuff. Will these videos (mostly short 15 min videos) effect the throttling of the account? If it does how long will the account be throttled before it goes back to normal speed?

4.How long does the entire process from applying to actually using the system take?

Kind regards.
Andre Nel

Doesn't sound like you read anything xD.

1. throttled to 2.5mbps after 1 hour
2. yes
3. yes, if line is used fully for an hour. Throttling lasts an hour.
4. +- 10 working days.

One thing I'm still uncertain about is the one hour thing. When does tis kick in, or is it always throttled like that. So anytime you use the Internet for an hour, it will drop speed for an hour? Or is it only after you have used X amount of gigs that month?

Another failed LOS test :(

Mike / Garth / Bitco

I strongly urge you to consider using Clearwater Mall as an option for a new high site (the installer took photos). There are 3 existing towers up with good view of the surrounds and a Telkom exchange there so likely good existing infrastructure to leverage off of.

Then of course there's the fact that I have perfect LOS and they are < 1km from me.

Think about it.

Please :(

Rob

After my failed LOS test today I filled out the form on wapa.org.za and who's the first company to contact me almost immediately?

*bangs head against desk*

Yes, my question to. How can you possibly stream from Netflix if every hour the speed goes down to 2meg???? This does not make sense! If my son watches Youtube videos in standard not HD do you want to tell me that after every hour he gets throttled?
And I did read the forum but their FUP is not very clear... Not even the FAQ is very clear.
I will be moving from ADSL which is irritating but it works to wireless that is unknown. I just want to get as much clarety as possible.

Currently (forget about the new FUP) if you utilise 100% of your link for 1 hour and you are on the 5Mbps package, you will be throttled to 2Mbps. If you then do not utilise the link for another 1 hour it will reset back to 5Mbps. If you use less than 100% of your line it takes longer to be throttled, but still after 1 hour of little to no traffic it will reset to full speed.

I only say forget about the new FUP for now as it has not been implemented.

I have to say, the FUP even in its current form really doesn't get in the way of my everyday activities. If you read the forum it sometimes comes across as being very harsh, but truth is it really isn't. If you are a big downloader then go for a business connection, or go for the 10Mbps package so you are at least running at 5Mbps. Bar the sometimes terrible customer support (I received assistance to a question within 1 hour today) this is by far the best net link I have ever had.

Yip after an hour shaped to 2mbps, then the internet becomes useless for "HD streaming"

Ok so I finally had BitCo out (on 11th Nov 2014) to do the LOS and it passed, installation was professionally completed and as per their policy the link has to be soak tested. Was informed that it may take up to a maximum of 7 days for the tests to be completed and my line activated.

I now wait the minimum 48 hours quoted by Bitco support agent Jaco to see if it passes and whether it will be handed over.

All tests after installation by the installation technician showed promising signal strength and bit rates in the rain!

Let's see how this pans out...posting from a 3g crappy connection.

Shucks: today was a terible day for streaming. My Hulu+ app on my roku bufered every 10 minutes for roughly 40 to 80 seconds. And worst of all i coulnt even download the episode i wanted to watch.

Basically this is 2mb uncapped for R900... I stream more than an hour a day and I am sure, so does everyone else. 2mb is good for sd streaming. Unconvinced...
