BitCo Consumer Review

Hi Guys,

Here is one from the office with the link open - http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3944413753

:D

#Thanks Garth

Mike

Hmm typical carrier grade PTP link no contention, synchronous. Used to work with these a lot - as in install, maintain and eventually sold them too.

I used to have access at one of the larger Tier 1 telco with Gbps links when they started out and we were testing...used to download a 650MB file in less than 5 minutes.

We had even tested P2P...10 torrents would complete in 30 minutes.

Wow! I feel the speed!

Even though I signup for 2MB line, 3G is legacy now~

This is the Internet!

I placed my router too far from the room where I work, so I got some packets drop from the router, then I dragged a LAN cable from the router directly, and it's flying now. :D

I haven't seen ping to Google like this~

Pinging www.google.com [74.125.233.100] with 32 bytes of data:

Hehehe, welcome to the Bitco family of happy internet experiences - glad you are enjoying it as much as the rest of us :)

Network poked, I guess it's load shedding.

Download Speed: 604 kbps (75.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 171 kbps (21.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 47 ms

Hi KoeksGHT,

No problems on our side, Please can you re-test and if still experience a problem please log with [email protected]

From the quick check i have done on your line i see no issues at all

Lots of load shedding going on but all our sites have backup power so we are unaffected

Mike

Sent mail but gave it a reboot and seems to be working great now.

welcome to the family bud, you are never going to look back

I'm looking back.

Upgraded about 2 months ago from 5mb/s to 10mb/s. No extra charge and it took about 5 days...Happy.

New FUP came in after that and my torrents averaged 10kb/s on a 10mb line. Even games that I have to update using an application has terrible speeds. After 6pm it is very inconsistent.

So now I am downgrading to 5mb/s again because the value of my line is a lot lower than it was when I first got it. To my surprise they added a R500 once off migration fee to put me back on 5mb/s.

Whats the deal??

That would make sense. As discussed earlier in the thread they wanted to extend migrations upwards by a full contract term. We suggested there be no change on an upgrade but a downgrade they should charge a migration fee. We actually suggested it as that is more fair than penalizing people for upgrading.

Where on the website is this stated?

Don't think it's on the website. Would you rather be stuck with the 10Mbps line for 12 or 24 months or pay a R 500 migration fee?

I would rather want to know what I am signing up for when I sign up for it. How can they charge for something that is not stated anywhere.

The client signs up for a product because he is happy with what he has read (FUP etc). After signup, the product gets changed and members gets notified on a public forum. No emails have been sent.

Would you rather pay hidden fees or would you like to have transparent customer service that is communicated on more than one form of media?

Hi Guys

I would like to share a bunch of GoPro footage with some friends, is it possible to give them access to a share on my home server, where I can send them a link and they download straight from me? Instead of me having to upload to DropBox first?

If anyone has done anything like the above, please drop me a PM if you wouldn't mind assisting me set it up?

Thanks

You would then be held to the normal upgrade for the time being. That is how it was when you signed up. I prefer the change though. Just my 2c's. You will have to chat to Garth or Mike regarding yours. I doubt it has anything to do with the actual labour involved, more about the business rules. Imagine if everyone upgrade and downgraded from month to month. I would put huge unnecessary pressure on the back end employees. Just my 2c, I can't speak on behalf of Bitco, as I said, chat to Mike or Garth.

Wooooohhhhhooooooooo :D

they just came out and they did found signal on 2 high sites.

Apparently they need to get permission from director to install ?

:D

Did they install straight away? If not I would not be so optimistic :o

unfortunately not... they did take pictures of my current tv antenna , they can use that.

iam just glad they found signal :D

cant wait to play dota with a ping lower than 100ms constantly :D

You can upgrade at any time. If you downgrade though to let's say 2Mbps in that 12 months you might have a clawback. That you will have to discuss with Grath.

How much labour is involved in downgrading an account?

Since you asked this question in August and was answered back then with this exact same answer. I feel you're being a bit unfair don't you think? You were aware of the clawback back in August already.

@ Gezza,

This is standard practice within Telecoms industry and is generally built in as part of the product set business rules. If you are upgrading then there is generally no charge as the the new Monthly Recurring Charge (MRC) is more than what you set out paying and is a benefit to both parties.

If you are downgrading, then it is not a benefit to you or the service provider as the MRC is now less. There is generally a small clawback / admin fee to execute the downgrade as the config files needs to be updated and then passed onto the billing engine to effectively bill you at the downgraded MRC from X date.

In my experience thus far with BitCo; their policies are inline with the industry practice and infact they use this forum's feedback to ammend their policies for the better.

In terms of communication of fees / schedule / pricing and policy changes - communication can be better from BitCo. Their website should also be updated to cater for the consumer and realise that consumers are more demanding with regards to customer services.
So a Client Services portal online with all your contract, T&C's should be made available to the consumer and ultimately can be extended to their business customers.
With BitCo being new to the consumer space, they are still on a learning curve and need some time to improve on some aspects.

Overall, this is the best internet experience I have had in SA - even though I am on a 5 Mbps line. I live in the UK and other countries and was used to nothing less than 15 Mbps with free line speed upgrades...

So to me in SA, BitCo is a breath of fresh air - and no I don't work for them! Maybe I should offer to help them with their consumer business :p:D;) @ Mike and Garth.
