Howzit Mike,

The FUP policy is clear and understood however when you say FUP most consumers view it as a data figure, which the ISP will not allow you to exceed.eg

ISP 1 Uncapped unshaped FUP 1000gigs
ISP 2 Uncapped unshaped FUP 800gigs
Bitco Uncapped shaped, 1 Hour Max download, throttle 1/2 of speed for an hour then back to normal.

Flip side what would your FUP data limit be?
 
[1] Customer behaviour which may cause an Internet service to be throttled includes using
bandwidth intensive protocols such as peer-to-peer or performing unattended downloads of
large files.

[2] Throttling may also occur when a customer downloads at near 100% of the line
capacity for approximately 1 hour. The throttling is then automatically removed after the
excessive usage has stopped for a similar period of time.

[3] In the event of such customer behaviour being detected, BitCo reserves the right to terminate
the account of a customer whose usage is continuously affecting BitCo’s network.

Okay, so there's a "maybe/maybe-not" in there. Can we get certainty on this please?
Also, [1] and [3] above appear to imply that as soon as BitCo detects a customer using "bandwidth intensive protocols" the customer "may" (again, certainty please) be throttled, irrespective of whether or not the customer limits his/her own download speed.

Also, can you quantify "continuously".

Hi Sodan,

BitCo's FUP is based on the leaky bucket algorithm, the important stuff to know is that from 6am - 6pm torrents are shaped and pooled on our network, so you will be able to download but will be slow during these times. After 6PM is open and you will get the full line speed.

The leaky bucket algorithm is a usage based FUP and will trigger after one hour of maximum utilization on your link, it will slow your connection down to 50% line capacity until it has the same amount of time to recover

If you only use around 60% of the line the FUP trigger will be extended until such time as the usage triggers the FUP

Remember it works off the leaky bucket algorithm so length will be greatly extended based on the usage of the connection.

I personally watch Streaming Media on my 5Mbps often and only reach the FUP if i stream for pro longed periods of time.

You wont find an ISP who can give you 1:1 Uncontended bandwidth without a form of FUP

Majority of Providers believe in heavily contending the bandwidth to limit usage and abuse

We have chosen to keep a premium product with a Temporary usage based FUP

Im assuming due to your silence the data usage figure is.......infinite!

Are the weekends included in the 6am - 6pm or are weekends open for abuse :)
 
Mike, if I may ask: How did you decide on a 2Mb throttled speed? Why not a 3Mb speed, or at least 2.5Mb? See, I'm figuring that if the 10Mb package goes to 5Mb, then shouldn't the 5Mb drop to 2.5?

Just wondering...

Yea it's the only package which is not exactly half

I think it's broken up in tiers.

They can only put you on the lower tier below the one you on. So that would be 2 as opposed to 2.5 as they don't have a 2.5 offering.
That's just my logical assumption.

Makes sense. If that's the case then i guess they might not adjust it
