BitTorrent n00b

I just set up an AfriHost account and I am now trying to download a couple of torrents.

The afrihost account is verified and running.

I am running a mac, and in BitTorrent the download doesn't start, it just hangs on "checking for firewall". In tomato, it comes up with the following error message Problem connecting to tracker - <urlopen error [Errno 60] Operation timed out>

Any ideas?

Do you have a firewall running? Does it allow the ports for torrent traffic?

Why not try news servers, news.is.co.za instead as it will eat less of your bandwidth than torrents.

Try a different client. I recommend Vuze as it probably wasn't written with Mac in mind.
