Blabkberry EDGE vs 3G. How do I change?

My MTN Blackberry Internet Service is defaulted to run on EDGE, but my sister's runs on 3G. How do I change this? I've run through all my settings that I could think of, but can't figure it out.

what model do you have, my first guess is that it does not have 3g , by default its set to "2G & 3g"

Which BB are you using? And your sister?

Manage connections>mobile network options>network mode. If it doesn't have a 3G option then your phone doesn't support 3G.
