How long should one charge a BB for the very first time?

More specifically the Curve 3G 9300?

Note sure if its 8 hours, 16hours or just until its full?

Comments Appreciated.

"Lithium-ion is a very clean system and does not need priming as nickel-based batteries do. The 1st charge is no different to the 5th or the 50th charge. Stickers instructing to charge the battery for 8 hours or more for the first time may be a leftover from the nickel battery days."

" Unlike nickel and lead-based batteries, a new lithium-ion pack does not need cycling through charging and discharging. Priming will make little difference because the maximum capacity of lithium-ion is available right from the beginning. Neither does a full discharge improve the capacity of a faded pack. However, a full discharge/charge will reset the digital circuit of a 'smart' battery to improve the state-of-charge estimation"

So there you have it, just keeping it topped up rather than running it out should maintian good operating lifespan....

Thank goodness somebody discovered some concrete evidence that the old "8 to 12 hours" thing quoted by every idiot working in a cellphone shop is total crap!

Thing is, it used to be that way - but the next gen components used in batteries are awesome - it used to have memory(?) if not charged properly :D
I called BS at a MTN shop the other day when a salesman told the lady next to me 'remember to charge it for 16 or more hours' was so funny when she asked him 'Is that true" and he had to say, yeah probably ...

When my someone asks me if they can start using the phone immediately, I say yes but it wont last long...they only come with about 1 bar. If they ask me how long they should charge it for the first time, I tell them that I personally still charge my new phones over night...but not a fixed amount of hours. And I explain that its only my personal preference...they dont have to if they dont want to.

Great this makes sense, because after doing my own research online confirmed points and opinions... these sales people really need to be updated on the latest tech out there...

Thanks for the info.

The guys at the cell shops say a minimum of 16 hours or over night. That's a lie!! That was the old way. It must be a minimum of 24 hours!! Mark my words! The phone has to get used to the current in your house.

Do you have a power balance bracelet?
