Black contractors viewed with suspicion

I work for a contracting company and I can confirm this.

Have worked in other countries as well and this statement holds true.

+1 Doesn't matter country/colour/gender/religion/planet, its the industry

I did a very similar thing, except I just found the versions online for free and used those to beat my contractor down when they did things incorrectly....

Ja true, plenty is available for free on the Internet, but these days to get the latest version is rather a problem.

I got to grips with this nonsense when very young. I went and did a bricklaying course that used be run at the PTA show grounds.. I the did the same for plumbing, electrical, paving, plastering, roofing etc.

ALL contractors viewed with suspicion, ****all to do with race

Exactly. Best is if you are lucky, you find someone you know. Otherwise you're going to get burnt. We read DIT magazine. And a few years ago they did a survey on people who made alterations at their homes, 9/10 didn't have anything good to say about the contractors. I was lucky, knew the guy. He'd stay on site during the day monitoring and checking what the hell is going on. Family had a kitchen renovated and alterations done. Contractor come, drop the team of and go and sit in the pub.

Also, tbh, it's not as if the last 20+ years of ANC rule has done wonders for the 'trust blacks' department either..
