Hi

Planning on building a farm style redbrick house with some industrial look. Because we wont be plastering the inner walls, electrical conduit will be exposed on the brick walls.

As such i'm thinking of getting black pvc pipes, junction boxes and plug boxes as opposed to white in order to get the look i want. kinda like so...

Does anyone know if it costs more and also where to find said pipe in CPT?

TIA

I think your best bet here is going with the galvanized conduit and getting it powder coated or DIY spray paint it..

The only available black conduit in PVC is the flex stuff and you will never get straight lines without using an abundance of clamps attached to the wall..

ja but the cost of galvanized vs pvc....

Might just get white pipe and spray it then

Yeah its not going to look great.
The white pvc is very flexible and will not have nice lines.
Painting them will be costly and they will probably constantly chip and have to be painted again.

Plaster does not cover electrical pipes or water pipes. They are build into the wall itself.

Interesting that black conduit PVC not really available in SA...wonder if it has to do with the heat absorption factor of black vs white conduit, especially when exposed to constant SA sunshine?

maybe...

Maybe its just not widely advertised and can be sourced... i'm putting feelers out. And for my purposes will be inside... i dont mind defaulting to white on the outside if required.

Probably because there is no market for different colours in SA, as the conduit is mostly inside the walls where nobody sees them.

am i missing something

You bought from them before..? They are legitimate..? You got your ordered products..?

I have a facebrick house, so chasing is not an option when forced to run a few meters of cable outside along a wall (normally I try and go via the roof/ceiling etc.) I guess not applicable if you need to mount light switches.

Purely because I have a lot of white PVC conduit, I use the product below to paint the pipe and saddles when installing. I normally sand the entire pipe lightly before spraying, and it sticks really well. The pic is of the black colour, but they also have a bronze one that I normally use.

Only trick is to take the time to patiently paint the pipe and saddles with 2-3 light coats to avoid dripping etc.
