I see that Blackberry are releasing this device in the US on November 21. The good news is that it is an EDGE device. Is this one likely to be available in SA soon?

Kind regards

Alan

Looks pretty sweet. :) I've got the 7290 now but I'd upgrade it.

I know this is completely off topic, but has anyone seen / read about the new N-Series (N92, N80, N71) from Nokia? Have a look here:

Do you think this will be available anytime from MTN (seeing as how efficient they are on delivery and availability of new phone models)?

I'll sell your soul for one of those...

Death of BlackBerry

The new Nokia's are fab, my friend anina visit - www.anina.net ,was at the Barcelona event last week by Nokia's invitation.

You can see her views on the new phones on her MobBlog -

It is not the phones that are impressive, but rather the new strategies from Nokia.

Blackberry is doomed to failure due to cost of infrastructure, companies like www.systemsfusion.com have allready got the coffin nails in hand.

That is if the infighting over the patents don't kill them first.

With sales up 75% this year - in fact out selling even PalmOne in the PDA market - there's still plenty of life in Blackberry. Those figure also dont take into account Blackberry Connect were makers like Nokia and Motorola run RIMs software.

Until recently I used to hear almost annually that that year was the end of Apple - I think the same is going to be the true of RIM. Like Apple the Blackberry works.

I don't know about effecient on delivery and availability of new phone models

January 2005 when I wanted to get a i-mate Jam or PDA2K on contract from MTN I couldn't get it because it was not yet available on the MTN network. While Vodacom had the phones for months before that. Luckily now I see that the Jasjar and K-Jam is available on contract. Can't believe it though.

That was actually very subtle sarcasm. I have had so much trouble getting decent phones from mtnsp when upgrading (and i've done it thrice), I know how difficult it is...

I also have a 7290 and would kill for the 87XX but I doubt it, RIM's strategy (at least with the 7100 devices)is to brand devices to specfic carriers i,e 7100V for Vodafone or 7100T for T-mobile. The 8700c is for Cingular in the states and it is likely that we will see variants of this device (in design as per the 7100 series) soon for other networks. If Vodafone does not snap on it we wont get it.

OT - I had a 7100v previously and I find the GPRS connectivity on the 7290 far superior.
