Ok, so i have upgraded from the pearl to the 8900 , how do i set up my existing email ?

It's stuck on activation , any clues or links ? I thought you could just enter your existing email and password and carry on....

Thx

Are you using BIS or BES? Has MTN/Vodacom activated the Blackberry service on your Sim Card? If you're using BIS, go to the MTN site and select the option to change the device, everything should be transferred.

You can also use the BlackBerry desktop manager and do a device switch

I have a mac, does not like it :erm:

It's all working now except my password which it says is wrong. When I say 'forgot password' and type in my mothers maiden name it's wrong as well ... :(

Strangely nothing seemed to work until I pulled the battery out , then the settings I entered and was waiting for activation appeared

Hi gents

As you can see I use an iPhone and have no clue how to use a BB. A friend of mine has purchased a BB 8900 from T Mobile. How exactly would one de-brand the device and install it's original firmware onto it? Even if it's Vodacom branded software, as all his settings are T-Mobile settings.

TIA

I don't know how heavy the branding is but you might just have MTN send you the service books (call 1555) assuming you have BIS (or Voda if you're with them) otherwise you'll have to install generic firmware or the MTN/Voda firmware from their websites. Look on www.blackberryforums.com for more help. I don't believe it's too difficult.

It is possible to de-brand a berry but not worth it as de-branding it is not going to make it perform function that branded would have prevented.
RIM sells the device to carriers and allows the carriers to brand aspects of the berry so that RIM does'nt get called for tech support by the end-user (the carrier sorts out the issue or logs it with RIM if need be to resolve the problem)

De-branding is not going to unlock any new features or make the device faster.

Different carriers have different network technologies so branding the device to use on that carriers network "simplifies" and "localises" the support for the device to that carrier.
