Blackberry 8900 vs 9000

8900 = Released August 2008
9000 = Released May 2008

8900 = EDGE
9000 = 3G

8900 = 2.4inch screen
9000 = 2.6inch screen

8900 = 110grams
9000 = 133grams

8900 = 109x60x13.5mm
9000 = 114x66x14.0mm

8900 = 3.2MP
9000 = 2.0MP

8900 = 512mhz
9000 = 624mhz

8900 = Standby 356hours
9000 = Standby 310hours
 
Okay so the 9000 has 3G, is bigger, has a bigger screen, better processor, but crap camera and standby time.

Now, assuming I use BIS, how is the browsing speed affected by the lack of 3G?

I have seen threads here with guys complaining about speeds they getting through this service. A free service like this is great, but if you cant use it cause its too slow, its pretty much useless, and in which case, having 3G to browse off BIS is much better?

I'm using the 8900 and I don't have a problem with the EDGE speeds. Websites loads quick enough. Faster than on my previous N96 with 3.5G.

I get Edge and 3G depending on the area i am in (N95) and i find such a difference between the two.

Yip all data is compressed and encryted so EDGE is as good as 3G on other phones.

The slow data incident was isolated, things should be normal now.
 
So the logical choice would be the 8900 cause its smaller and cheaper and has a better camera. The 3G on the 9000 is really irrelevant? I dont want to get the 8900 and later on regret not taking the 3G option.

Any body use googletalk/ Skype / Fring (blackberry equivalent) etc with the 8900 and BIS? Hows this performance? Cause these really meant to make use of 3G speeds
 
EDGE on 8900 for browsing is slower than on the Bold with 3G. I actually compared to check a 8900 and my Bold. Both on MTN. But it is not a major difference. However I do get up to 110KB/s download speeds when downloading MP3s and files :) It also rocks being able to stream Ibiza radio at 128kb with Mobiola. It really depends what you use your phone for. I type a hell of a lot on my Bold so the 8900 does not suit me because nothing beats typing on the Bold. I have touch typing on my Bold pretty much waxed and probably type over 60wpm on it. The 8900s camera really is much better than the Bold's. It is pretty good for a 3.2 Mpixel camera while the Bold's 2 Mpixel is worse than my old Nokia E70's 2 mpixel camera. Video clips on the Bold are suitable though I reckon. I also prefer the bigger screen. I measured 2.7 inches viewable with a ruler :) That all said my fiance absolutely loves the 8900. The Bold she says is too big for her. She doesn't use it half as much as I use my phone and its smaller so its ideal for her
