I was wondering if Jannie could reply to this thread as he promised to PM me?

"I'll drop you a PM and we can see what's going on.

Even though Marine won't admit it here, he did post (in a moment of weakness) that the BIS service improved substantially
."

My Blackberry service is timing out 98% of the time again?
I have been charged for BIS that is not working?
I have been charged for data usage besides BIS?
I have been charged for R250 - R350 for data usage on my blackberry where I struggle to load facebook pages?
Is this possible?

So I would just like to know, why am I paying R500 - R800 a month for a service which does not work as expected/promised?

I've been having terrible 3G and Edge speeds in the evening on Vodacom, and that's using my Nokia. So I doubt it's just Bis. Sms' go through an hour or two after I sent them, and not all calls get through. And I don't live in a very densely populated area.

I've been getting between 500Kb/s to about 900Kb/s on BIS the last two or so weeks (since I started testing it).

I'll PM you right now with my contact details. Please send me your contact details, typical locations where you use BIS and the cell number on which you run BIS. I'll get the guys to check what's the story.

BlackBerry BIS EDGE instead of 3G

Lately I often connect via EDGE rather than 3G on Vodacom BIS. This happens all over the place in Gauteng (Johannesburg and Pretoria). Are you seeing the same?

Jannie, please send me a PM with the below Info :)

Q1. is there a way i can listen to radio stations on my BB using BIS
(If i would go onto the 5fm website or Kfm, and click on "listen" would i be charged per meg ?)

q2. Some users say Youtube streaming is free, others say you pay per meg?

q3. If the internet is suppose to be unlimited, why is there a softcap / throttle in place?

Thanks

Streaming has never been part of BIS, from Day 1. So you'll be charged at your prevailing data plan.

When you access Youtube, your phone will actually pop up a message to tell you this. (Unless you've disabled the message).

The idea that "the internet is supposed to be unlimited" is factually incorrect.

BIS was designed to provide specific functions in a flat-rated fashion, specifically things like e-mail, on-device browsing, etc.

I've just about had it with BIS. It's been seriously dodgy the last few days.

I wonder what % of the network is set aside for BIS couldn't be more then 25%-30%

Your emails also take forever to reach you?

I used to send mails to myself with 200k attachments if I needed a photo or something. It used to take 1 or 2 minutes to come through. On average it's now between 10-15 minutes ... and I've just done a test and it was 18 minutes.

I have been doing network tests on my BB, the pings are outrageous and I have never seen anything more than half a meg speed. Everytime I am out, I test, the network has fallen over IMO.
