I am of the opinion that the Blackberry Bold 9000 is a failed model in the RIM range of phones as should be withdrawn from the market and the owners given new phones. My reason is as follows:

1.) The trackball - Thousands of post on-line about the trackball failing and its inability to go in certain directions. I am also victim of this. I have to use contact cleaner everyday to get it working again.
2.) Speaker issue - The flash on the phone pushes down on the speaker disabling it partially or completely.
3.) Keyboard issues - several users experience malfunctions with their keyboards.
4.) Screen problems - several users reported screens dying on the device within a month or two of purchase.

I am on my third Bold now and the problems have started again. I absolutely love the Blackberry interface, its speed and usability but it is no good if the phone's hardware fails on me constantly. I am considering going to Android. What is RIM going to do about this? Lose me and all my friends as a customer or sort us out with another phone? I can't keep on waiting 4-6 weeks for a new one. It is ridiculous.

Alternatively you can read reviews before you buy any hardware.

I did. And the reviews said "Awesome phone". So did I. But none of the reviewers had this phone for a month or longer. The problems are now apparent. They should do like Toyota did and withdraw them because they are doing damage to the brand. Big time.

OK, I was referring to user reviews, but if you had one of the firsts, then fair - you can't know. I assume you imported then? Doesn't it take a while to get here via normal channels?

You should get a Nokia N8. It's not released yet, but according to some posters the phone is 100% perfect in every way and manner that you could think of. :p :)

Failure is inevitable.
Apple, Blackberry, Samsing, Sony Erricson, Nokia....

There will always be a problem. I worked with the trackball for 1minute and knew this is gonna be a hassle.

I've been using my 9000 for 18 months.

1.) The trackball - Never had a single issue.
2.) Speaker issue - Yes I have this. Planned a trip to berryfix to see if I can fix next week.
3.) Keyboard issues - Never had a single issue here.
4.) Screen problems - Never had this happen.

I still rate it as the best phone I've ever owned. Next I'll get the 9700 (or whatever is equivalent in 6 months) or that new clap-shell model being rumored.

Hopefully at a certain point they will give u a bold 9700?
I really really hope so! I found out now that the model I am using has been discontinued and that all the news ones have the touch pad. That still doesn't help me. A lot of people have told me to throw it away and claim it as stolen but why must I perform a criminal activity because a company has given me a defective product?
