Blackberry cant connect to applications

Hi There

Dont know if this has been covered yet. Im having trouble connecting to applications on my blackberry curve 8530.

I downloaded a facebook and google email push app but i cant connect to either. "Login failed, due to network problems, please check your settings".

To my knowledge everything is set correctly. Am i missing anything?
 
im on vodacom. i can browse yeah. havent set up email not. but browsing is fine on gprs and wifi
 
I had the same issue on MTN and they said to use Blackberry apps, I had to subscribe to the Blackberry service.
 
ok cool. do i have to phone vodacom to activate BIS. is that the R57(aprox)/month thing

Yep, call VC to activate BIS, if not already activated.

If it shows gprs or edge in lowercase letters then BIS is not active.

If it shows GPRS or EDGE in uppercase letters then BIS is active.

You will need to provide your PIN number for activation:

Menu > Options > Advanced Options > Status : Pin

IME number will also be there.

Lol ta. but seeings though im not gonna use email and stuff allot now and not getting that big of a salary I think Ill wait be4 I activate all the extras...can become costly. Ta for help guys!
 
If you purchased it through vodacom's current 8530 + weekender plus special then the monthly blackberry internet service fee (BIS) is included in the monthly fee of r149.
 
OK but remember, nothing will basically work. No internet, no BB messenger, no GPS. It does sound like you have BIS active though, cause the Facebook icons only appear if your BIS is active.

A blackberry without BIS/BES is kind of pointless.
 
I can surf the net and opera mini works fine but I have mainly been using WiFi. and what more would a 23 year old that doesnt have his own business working as an HTML Implementer want with all those extras? Im permanently in front of my pc so i got email right here.

I got it on 315 topup so no extra BIS activated...or so i think. I got it for the poker haha.

Why get a blackberry then? Lets be honest without the inclusive BIS/BES there are plenty of better phones available.
 
I use my phone like any other...send sms' and make phone calls and chose the BB cause it was the better looking one and mostly for the name. the poker game got me too. dont tell me COD Modern Warfare is coming out on mobile in a couple of days and i need BIS to play it...sigh...WHY???

What do you guys use your phones for and is it mostly work related?
