Okay, so this is my tragic story...

My father recently got a free Blackberry Pearl 8110 from Vodacom when they launched their new Vodacom Business. The problem at that stage was that it was SIM blocked against other networks.. So after about 3 weeks, they finally replied with a unlock code for me to finally use it with CellC.

Now, everything works fine - BUT, I cant get OTA settings for my GPRS/MMS from them (via the sms service), because they can`t detect my phone. Anyone think they support this phone on this network? If not, WHY?? It will be a damn shame if you cant just randomly buy a phone, and it wont work with CellC! Anyone got any pointers? Or am I out of damn, freaking luck?

PS - Weird thing though, I use Opera Mini on my phone and its GPRS works fine, I can browse! But when I want to use the original phone browser (some apps cant download through Opera Mini), it says I don`t have a data connection plan, hence my settings is not right....

ANYONE?

AFAIK CellC doesnt offer blackberry support which is needed for 99% of the blackberry's features.

IMO the best (ok only) good thing about Vodacom is their r69 per month blackberry account with unlimited device data.

Bwana, can you add that option onto an existing contract account? (Still haven't unblocked my cingular blackberry though... )

sure. AFAIK you can even add it to a 4u contract which itself has no monthly charge and only pay the r69 + call charges etc.

Help!

Hey Elysium

I'm one step behind you.
My boyfriend has given me his old blackberry cos my Pearl was stolen :(
His blackberry is locked to Vodacom and I'm on MTN contract - everywhere I go they want to charge me R450 to unlock it! Who did you call to get codes?

Thanks

PP

Hey Pink

Well it was all hell, the Vodacom phone was from Vodafone... Basicly we went to a Vodashop, asked to unlock it. Initially they said it can`t be done (bull), then said they will charge a fee.. Then we saw the manager, he took our details, and emailed my dad couple of weeks after with the unlock codes he got from Vodafone. As FAR AS I KNOW, Vodacom is supposed to unlock this phone by law, and I didn`t pay...So give it a try and say its been illegal a while to network lock phones (mabey just make sure on that, thats what I think)

Hope this could help

Chris

I recently got a blackberry on my moms contract as her upgrade. My contract is Cell C, i know I cant get the BB services yet, But Im hoping you can help me get my GPRS set up? Ive tried the sms *147# but the settings still havent been sent to my phone after 2 days?

I've gotten everything working on my gf's BB on CellC, including the BB messenger, browser, all of it. I can easily post a guide on how to do it.

Just beware, I'm not sure if my methods are legal.

Mean while, use this to just get on the internet with the BB -

Go to Options > Advanced Options > TCP

And just put in the CellC APN settings.

Download Opera Mini from http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/blackberry/

Then connect your phone to the PC and using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager install Opera Mini. If you're not sure on how to install a new app please do a google search, I'm not here for that.

Open Opera Mini on your phone and viola!

Oi iPirate! Good to see you are still around. How is it going with the Tribal laws?
