Can someone tell me,when you get a berry data bundle what is the highest speed availaible. It was my understanding that even if your phone has hsdpa you will be limited to edge speeds on all black berries. Is this correct:confused:

Another question..well...can i use the unlimited data plan using the phone as a modem and what speeds can i get?
I care little for blackfairies but these are questions which i ask blackberries users and strangely enough they dont know and look really confused :D

I blame the networks for not feeding enough info to the masses:D

Your phone will manage the speeds that it is capable of. An 8520 will only manage gprs or edge, depending on coverage in the area. Others phones that are capable of 3G or hsdpa will connect at that speeds (provided that the 3G or hsdpa network is available to that area). If you live in some outlying farm area and there is no 3G or hsdpa coverage then fastest connection that your 9900 will get will most likely be edge, hope you understand.

Ok,so what you are saying is that in a coverage area where the berry say a 3g model gets 3g speeds i can use the unlimited months data plan and use my phone as a modem and download at 3g speeds without being restricted by bbservers to edge.

If this is true i am getting me a blackberry:D

No, the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) is limited to on-device browsing. If you use your phone as a modem you'll need a data bundle of some sorts, or pay OOB rates.

Also, most networks don't allow downloads bigger than about 2MB or YouTube etc on BIS either.

Data streaming and using your phone as a tethered modem isnt free afaik...

I really wouldn't get a BB for data use - even on the phone.

I've always understood that BIS is limited to 3G speeds - regardless of whether your phone can do more or not? But whatever it is, its extremely slow. Get a friend with a 'normal' phone and go to the same site, at the same time.

I love my BB ... I love BBM ... it may not be as fancy as an Android or *cough* iPhone, but it really isn't as bad as people try make out. BUT the Internet service lets it down and will be the reason for me changing when my contract is due.

I had to ask these questions....dont want to be stupid and buy a bb gold edition:D.
For now i am happy with 8ta 3gig promo, but if things should change for bb i would consider bb data
