Is there anyone that can please tell me what the difference is between Blackberry.net and MyMtn? I have asked on MTN's facebook page and all they tell me to do is phone 173 and a consultant will look into it for me:confused: I'm sure it is a straightforward question and answer??

On my account it shows that my phone (BB 9720) sometimes logs in using Blackberry.net and other times using MyMtn. I am getting charged for the MyMtn logs and cannot tell what I am doing that is using that as the login?

I use my phone for Whatsapp, BBM, Facebook (on both the app and the browser as I can't tell which one is free), the occasional browsing using Google and that's about it. I don't watch YouTube videos (for eg) as an MTN Shop told me that video watching comes off my airtime, not my data, but that's about all the useful info I have. I am desperately trying to avoid extra expenses/data charges, but don't know how to.

Thanks Keegan - read through the link - that's just sad! And now I can't remember what apps came loaded on the phone and what I've loaded. Eish, thanks for your help - will have to relook at this.

Must I tick it or something? It says "APN settings enabled a box (with nothing in it) and below that ACP authentication enabled (with a box with nothing in it!) And below that "username for APN and password for APN". What do I do??

Tick it to enable it, the address should be BlackBerry.net
Username and password fields should be left blank

Thank you :). I've ticked it to enable, I've typed in Blackberry.net next to APN and I've left the rest blank (authentification, username and password). So - what does this now mean? What have I done?

Forces most connections to work through BIS

Thank you - I appreciate your help :). Hopefully it will now work and decrease my account charges!

Forces most connections to work through BIS

Alas, this does not appear to have worked :( As you can see from my "copy/paste" - mymtn is still the dominant one, with blackberry.net only used when I switch the phone on in the morning. As the moment the amount is R0, but as the month progresses (I suppose after I've used X amount of data) I start getting charged for the mymtn bits. *sigh* - guess I must just use my phone less?!

Unfortunately I am on a contract! Upgraded in Feb so stuck for +/- 20 months!

Sorry I missed this thread,
Yeah the force APN won't work... the APN is only used for BIS stuff everything else will go via MTN network.
like BBM etc goes via the BB APN.

Do you use the BIS Uncapped package?

I have no idea Keegan, but yes, I guess so. I just wish I knew what was using MyMtn so that I could delete it. I am now back to being charged 2c every few minutes and I'm not sure why. Is it perhaps my emails that are being sent through to my phone? I'm getting to the stage where I'm about to remove my sim and put it in a Nokia as I don't know what is going on! I've deleted Facebook and Whatsapp and so the only things my phone can now do is BBM and get emails! Is downloading the emails causing the charges? Eish :(

I would suggest,
You speak to MTN make sure you are on the uncapped package.

BBM and email should be free, are you using a web based email like yahoo, gmail etc?

You can also resort back to factory default if you feel that another app is using the data.

Have you ever tried to speak to MTN?? I have been trying for over 2 months now. The guys at the local store don't have a clue. The guys on their 181 "helpline" are even more useless. I've tried their facebook page and was told to call 181. I tried that and they couldn't help. I've lodged a query with MyMTN Active and they couldn't help either. So I've given up trying to get an answer from them and hoping a member of the public will have a clue.

My email is Telkomsa.net and it is rerouted (is that the word) through to my BB.

I have taken my old BB which doesn't have email on it (moved the account across to the new BB) and have been using it since Friday. All my phone can do now is receive calls, use BBM and SMS. I also put Whatsapp back on to see if that would make a difference (but only did that on Sunday night). So from Friday 12pm to Sunday/Monday 1am, I didn't have WA, or email - only BBM and I am STILL getting charges with MyMtn as well as Blackberry.Net. I honestly cannot work out what is causing the MyMtn charges.

I guess I will just have to give up on my quest and just pay up every month.

The only thing the guy at MTN store could tell me was that some things use airtime as opposed to data but I log into my account every night to check what has happened during the day and my airtime has stayed the same - it is only the PSD charges that are increasing, whenever MyMTN is activated.
