I need some help guys.

According to Vodacom reps and salesmen, if you buy any Vodacom Blackberry phone (not through a contract, buy it once off) it wont work on cell c, is that correct?

As far as i know, network locking isnt legal in SA. Surely the reps cant be right?

I spoke to numerous reps from Vodacom and they all told me the same thing, if u buy any Vodacom Blackberry, you can only use it on the Vodacom network.

If the reps are spreading false info just to get more sales, can anything be done about it?

I asked this same question everywhere. Autopage claimed it will be locked, MTN assured me it won't be and most others didn't understand the question.

So you really cannot trust the information you get unless it is a real life demo of a BB starting up with the Vodacom (or MTN) screen while registering and working on another (even foreign) network.

My wife and I got ours from MTN and wanted to be sure you can buy a European prepaid sim, activate BIS for it and just keep going as if you're not half way around the world. However, the need for this isn't going to come up in the foreseeable future and as such we haven't actually tested this. If it will be of any help I can try it.

Note that when they say it won't work on CellC that might just be because CellC's BIS is often not working...

It isn't, well the ones from mtn aren't cos I use a vodacom sim in it without any problems

I'm using a mtn issued bb with a prepaid vc sim. No probs

Yeah that's what i thought, the reps are talking kak, they even told me they had so many returns coz it didnt work on Cell C, lol.

I know that Vodacom wont honour the warranty if used on a different network, which is understandable.

Thanks for the help guys :)
