for most of this year I was on mtn BIS and it worked-- i mean the speeds were super slow, but everything still worked ok BBM, email etc, and my BB lasted a day on a full charge.

switched to 8ta BIS last week, and was impressed with the speed, BUT my battery will not make it through the night!
i usually charge my phone during the evenings, and then take it off charge to use as alarm when i go to bed. but for the past few days, the phone was dead- flat, couldn't even switch on!

swapped the wife's voda sim card to the BB with voda BIS into the BB on Sunday night, and what do you know: havent charged the phone again since sunday night and its still got 2 bars battery left!

what is going on with 8ta and BB battery life munching?

spoke to a few friends, and the one friend with 8ta bis is having the same issue!
i noticed that at home, the signal fluctuates, from little to no service, radio goes completely off, then on again etc..
what is happening 8ta BIS and BB?

anyone else here having the same thing?

Normally if you have a weak signal, it draws battery power to boost strength. What might help is if its on 3G (which also draws power), rather switch to 2G when on standby.

thats hectic man..how do you do that on BB?

For me it's Options > Network & Connections > Mobile Network > Network Mode.

With 3g I get about 1 day of use. On 2g I've gotten up to a week with minimal use, but on average around 3-4 days. Just enable 3g if you need to internet / send a pic via whatsapp or something.

Strange I'm on 8ta BIS with my 9900 and my battery life is quite decent,I get between a full day to 2 days depending on usage.

Maybe your phone is constantly searching for signal, try manually selecting either mtn sa or sa02 in your network selection options, maybe its switching too much between 8ta and mtn towers in your area?

The 3G/2G trick also works but shouldn't really be needed to keep a phone running for one night.
